Sad to see even bands like Galneryus aren't safe from idiot rating-bombers. How the hell can anyone consider this to be a 3/10? The musicianship alone merits much higher than that.

Ah well.

Yet another great album. These guys are probably the most consistently great band I've ever had the joy of listening to. Favourites on this one are "My Hope Is Gone", "Glory", "Never Again", and "Come Back To Me Again". Not a fan of the ballad they put on this one, but, it's not bad.

Agreed, I'm really tired of people review bombing just because it's not an overrated Finnish band or some form of black metal. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of Finnish bands and black metal but their fans seem to be the most common culprits (two different complexes; fanboyism and "my soul is blacker than yours"). Usually if I'm really not into a certain subgenre I just won't review it because I don't feel that it's fair to give a bad score on a subgenre I already don't like, just my two cents. I don't review most power metal because I hate it, however, Galneryus is the exception, they are amazing. Another fantastic release from them, as usual

Whereas the other day we had two complaints about a Teitanblood album's rating by people who didn't bother to give their own rating, today we have two people complaining about others rating an album too low when the lowest cast vote as of writing is a 6 and the overall score is 8.4...

AMG, Sputnik, and MetalKingdom all feature extremely favorable scores and reviews as well. Metal-Archives is full of reviews of their previous releases almost all scoring in the 90 percentile and this one will probably follow the same pattern. I don't understand the complaints in this thread.

Those people who were review bombing seem to have saw my initial comment. When I rated the album a 9, there were two other reviews of 9, one of 8, and two of 3. That's why my initial comment refers to a 3/10.

Maybe someone with Mod abilities investigated and nuked some vote abusers or the comments shamed them into deleting them themselves. Either way, at least you guys can rest easy knowing this album is unaffected by low ratings.

Might want to do another review. We passed the 20
mark and people seem upset to see the album in the top albums of 2019.

Music with no Cookie Monster on vocals is so victim of negative prejudices on this website

Don't you feel some Dream Theatre influence in some of the songs?

Well, very nice review of yours, TarannonFalastur. Just some things:

Everything is relative to the taste of the people. You could found a wankery of solos and stuff, but in my case (and I'm not alone on that) we found precisely in this work what we are looking on music. Also, what you argument about if you hear a Galneryus record you heard all, it can also be applied to many Death/Black Metal acts.

What people criticize here is not low ratings, but low ratings with no criteria at all (you know, the 3 or below ratings that come as meteors sometimes). However very well structured viewpoints like yours are always welcome, and are enjoyable to read (even for us people who enjoyed greatly this album). Anyway, musical viewpoints always will be subjective to the feelings and tastes of the listener.

¡Que tengas un buen día, chamo! STAY METAL!

Music with no Cookie Monster on vocals is so victim of negative prejudices on this website

Cookie Monster on vocals, Animal mutilating the drumkit, Grover and Oscar the Grouch handling bass and guitars? That sounds great to me, I can hardly imagine a better line-up to record their death metal interpretation of Master Of Puppets...

But what if Kermit, Miss Piggy, Scooter and Fozzie Bear would gather in the parallel puppet universe with the intention of founding a power metal band?
I don't know, but I just hope they will not ask a rag doll incarnation of Masatoshi "Sho" Ono to take over vocal duties. As to my ears, even Beaker's voice is less annoying and easier to stand than just 2 minutes of Galneryus.
And that's not a "negative prejudice" but just personal preference and the individual taste you referred to.

Quote:
What people criticize here is not low ratings, but low ratings with no criteria at all

My criteria is that I hate eunuch-like vocals just as much as you despise "Cookie Monster vocals". It's as easy as that.

But you are absolutely right - arbitrarily downvoting albums sucks supreme.
However, sometimes low ratings are just a backlash against unwarranted individual scores or the average rating. Because there are two sides of rating abuse.
After all, you've rated this album full score, 10 of 10, that's not just very good or excellent but perfect.

Citing the forum rules:
Quote:
10 means the album is a masterpiece, an album that changed the way we listen to music nowadays.

So far you've casted around 390 ratings and 80% of your album votes are 9s and 10s. You happen to know 143 masterpieces "that changed the way we listen to music"? That's great for you - but how comes that almost all of your acclaimed masterpieces are power metal albums?
Sorry, but it almost seems to me as if you're trying to inflate your favorite sub-genre by dumping ridiculously high ratings on each and any power metal release you've ever heard.

Seriously, it's way beyond me that you of all people are pretending to denounce rating abuse.

Third album from the band that really doesn't do a thing for me. Glory and Never Again are quite alright but the rest is forgettable at best. When I play Resurrection of AoS after any of these I can't help but notice the huge difference in songwriting.

I think Resurrection is a great album as well, but AoS always struck me as one of their "weaker" records. While the songwriting is definitely different there, I can't say that it's "better" than what we have on this album.

What about AoS do you find better than what is on display here? Obviously the title track on AoS is incredible, but the rest is not their best stuff IMO. Curious to hear your viewpoint.

I understand the last albums were a bit more 'experimental' (as much as it can be for Galneryus) than usual but I don't approve of that. I mean, stuff like The Followers is absolutely not what I'd like to hear from the band.

AoS is packed with highlights, there's only that stupid Lonely as a Stranger song which smells Phoenix Rising, the rest is almost flawless. It's easily memorable, the tracks have great flow of melody, and on top of that there's that absolutely tear-shedding final instrumental.

This album pushed me to relisten to this band, after a few years that I almost forgot them.
Excellent album! One of the best of 2019!!!

Even worse, anything with Power Metal gets bombarded with negative comments unless it's a masterpiece whereas many generic or unlistenable death/black/folk/doom get high ratings. It's like the darker more badass it is, the higher rating it gets. Growling alone guarantees an album a good rating on MS.
