Academically I'd say this is good, but it's hard to get excited about it in 2019. Think dissonance / BaN worship has run its course a bit now.

Yeh. The ironic thing is that old-school, more raw stuff feels fresher these days than a lot of the modern stuff.

Y not both? If it's good it's good. I haven't been wild about prior BaN aping black metal (or BaN themselves the past decade or so). Death metal seems to incorporate the sound better more frequently. But this managed to scratch an itch I didn't know I had. What BM have you been digging this year? It's been more of a death metal year for me.

I haven't heard many things similar to Ban tbh.
The whole DsO school of dissonance is overdone by now but I honestly have hard time naming many bands that are similar to BaN. Any suggestions from this year?

They are similar, but different enough to be distinguished. This has a much thicker sound and a more claustrophobic feeling to it.

Sounds like the best Blut Aus Nord album in a while.

I fell out of love with this band after their second album which I wasnt so keen on. Relistened to this today for the first time in a year or more after seeing your comment and remembered why I liked this album so much. The vocals are overbearing on their 2nd but on this one the mixing is much better.

Exactly. I was so disappointed after listening to their next efforts. Seems like they lost the grip on production. This is most clear with the way the vocals are presented. I could not really tolerate them.
Here the packaging is perfect. The sound is thick and juicy with enough room for minor details that creep out from time to time.
