Cirith Ungol's last album came out in 1991 and shortly after that the main cogs of this heavy/doom machine gave up making music altogether. You can read about how the sleeping giant was awakened here. For Forever Black's cover art the band once again collaborated with longtime friend and fantasy artist Michael Whelan, and it is one that directly hints at the music; that is, ballsy heavy metal saturated with ominous doom.
I find it amazing that this album fits so well with the rest of their discography. There's nothing about it to suggest that almost 3 decades separate it from their previous effort, it feels like an organic extension of what came before. Interestingly, this not only extends to the music itself, but also to its production. My personal highlights for this album are Legions Arise and the final two songs of the album, Before Tomorrow and Forever Black, though none of the other songs feel weak either. I'd also like to give shout-out to the single which preceded this album, even if it wasn't included here: Witch's Game is a bloody great song and I feel it's a shame it may get overlooked because it's not part of this album / the main discography.
Also I'm gonna break the echo chamber effect that's developing by saying that not only that I don't think the vocals are shit, but I in fact enjoy them.
I think folks expect from this band super album, what I can not agree. They want even 10 times betetr as 80's but guess what band can not do it. Get rid of that idea and all will be fine. band has good tunes, somehow ''serious'' music, good lyrics what they can think, good heavy riffs , good compositions and experience. Remember Conan died one day and life were after him as well, wenches, beer, metal and swords. Life goes one but this album I vote best come beck album in 2020. Its heavy a bit doom, many 80's bands must learn, and specially manowar

That is indeed astonishing.
The most remarkable fact though about this album, for me.
