This is freaking good album.

Maybe THE thrash album of all time, in my opinion, although I am still undecided whether this accolade should go to this one, or Metallica's Ride the Lightning. Excellent album, regardless.

'Hangar 18' in my opinion is the single greatest guitar composition ever created at least in metal anyway.

There where two Metal Albums that blew me away from the first moment: Metallica's Master of Puppets and Megadeth's Rust in Peace. Simply the best Metal Album of all time!

This is actually a lot better than Peace Sells. Better vocals, better production, superior soloing. I don't consider raw production a bonus any more than I consider blurriness of a photograph a bonus. Peace had some catchier riffs maybe, but overall it was pretty far from the quality of Rust In Peace, it didn't feel as complete and thought-out. Peace Sells is one of the greatest thrash albums for sure, but RIP is one of the top 10 metal albums overall. I don't believe that there can ever be such a thing as a perfect album, but if I did, then this would be it.

The word ''Flawless'' is sometimes overused in the metal world. But this album is one of the few that are completely flawless, along with Black Sabbath's Master of Reality and Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness...

IMO this album has the best lead guitar work ever, just listen to Hangar 18, and try to count the solos.

Is this album good? It's Excellent. Is this album heavy metal's best? No.

Haha, just trimmed that part out... although if you start looking at people who cast 1 votes for Master Of Puppets, some also hit Megadeth. most of the vote abusers just pop by vote and never return.

An Album For All Seasons...:metal:

The most Perfect thrash metal album from beginning to end in my eyes. 10 for the 1990 versions of every song. a 9.6 for the remastered

If you do not have this album your collection is not complete.

I can think of quite a few albums that should be #1 instead of this. I can't say that this album is not a landmark, but I can't rate it anything over "good" because the vocals bring the album down so much for me. The songwriting is top notch but the whiny bitch vocals make it unbearable for me. What I look for in thrash metal vocals is either ferocity or actual singing capability (this has neither), that's why whenever I want to listen to this album, I always end up listening to Artillery's By Inheritance.

This is awesome for me to see ... I just recently turned a lifelong Metallica fan to Megadeth ... and to see them even on one website at number one seals the deal .... Plus personally their full performance at American Carnage sealed that deal even further .... to quote Dave ... "That was Rust In Peace"

If I were you I would pretend not knowing what genre this album belongs to and listen to it that way. Assume you've never listened to any Thrash records before.

I think it is better to lower expectation in this sort of a situation. Maybe than the vocals won't be much of a deal to you.

In my younger days in metal, when i only listened to clean vocals, i really despised death-growls but then got completely used to harsh vocals.

Give it a few more tries, i bet you'll like Megadeth more.

I can get on board with Overkill, but Megadeth? They pulled a Metallica and went down the rock route for so long it's hard to think of them as a thrash band anymore. :/

There are only a few albums that I've given a 10, but this masterpiece deserves it. Every song is just amazing to listen to. This is one of the few albums that I could listen to without skipping any songs. And no, I'm not one of those holy wars and hangar 18 narks. This whole album is just amazing, but If I had to pick my favoutites they would be, Hangar 18, five magics, and tornado of souls
