Summer is at its end. A tranquil forest, majestic and lush, marks this passing. The intense green slowly fades, only to be replaced by all shades of yellow. The peaceful brook still flows, only its calming sound is no longer accompanied by a choir of singing birds. The skies have turned gray, and the sun barely manages to sneak a few rays through thick, heavy clouds. The first autumn rain falls, soaking the ground covered with a thick layer of mushy leaves. Winds howl through treetops, some of them naked, some still maintaining their colorful crowns. The air grows even colder, the brook freezes, and the first snowflake hits the ground, only to be followed by countless more, graciously floating through the air, which smells of the first snow. Can you picture this scene of autumn flowing by you?

One of the things that makes a great album, especially in the black metal or depressive black metal genres is atmosphere. The ability of a band to capture a certain atmosphere whether it be depressive and melancholic, or hateful and dark, the atmosphere of a black metal album is important. This album delivers a thick, sorrowful, and very natural atmosphere. Out of the four Drudkh albums I've listened to, this one is by far their best.

Rating: 9 Sunwheel evokes thought of the scottish bagpipe... anyone agree?

Rating: 9 The album that got me into Drudkh. This is black metal of the "classic" mould with a good amount of atmospherics.

Rating: 10 @Ag Fox: yes i always thought that guitar line was just like a bagpipe sound. This album is an atmospheric classic. The atmosphere on the album is so thick and it just sucks me in. Its like they took Burzum influences, added in their own unique style with great leads, and folk influences. Out of the 4 I've heard by them this one is by far the best.

Amazing albums! I've never liked black metal, but I'm changing my mind, thanks to this. Highly atmospheric, the way I like it, with good production.
Great album.

You see the last track here? It's almost 9 minutes of the same riff, yet it's never boring. This is proof of how atmospheric this is.

Rating: 8 I was born in a small village in the middle of the woods. I grow up there and here it comes - though it has the best sound of Drudkh alboms it is totally wrong. It is not autumn. It is the midsummer heat-dazed forest, with the feverish hot air humming in the trees and birds holding down their song due to the high season of their eggs hatching. The autumn atmosphere they want to catch is MUCH,REALLY MUCH harder to catch, they tried - and failed. Some other bands have that, but not Drudkh. And with their muted riffs they never can. Autumn is sharp. Sharp colours, sharp scents, sharper air. I should know. Parks have a bit mellower version of that, birds in park sing more actively, so best it can have is a really rain-dulled park atmosphere. But in spite of that still nice job.

Rating: 8 Great album. Like the previous, The atmosphere is totally amazing. But the outro is too fucking long. And something is missing, something that only Forgotten Legends has.

Checking The Swan Road now.
