Because nothing says brutal like naming your band after a fat, lazy Pokémon.

Everyone underestimates Pokémon. Magneton, Magmar and Xerneas can make an epic band name the list of potential goers on.

I mean it works, I just had to laugh a bit when I read it.

We can take it to the next step and associate each of the elemental types with how they can sound.
Magneton as cyber industrial electronica fusion.
Magmar as volcanic melting themed sludge drone ala Tchornobog.
Xeerneas as a dreamy ambient folk that gets technical but epic.

As for Alakazam? You can decide. There's a lot of franchises and hobbies that absolutely leave curiosity if directed into creative outputs. Look how far Middle Earth has become that I'm surprised there is hardly any Star Wars inspired artists afaik.

How about a Haunter black metal project or a Cubone funeral doom band.

How about a Haunter black metal project or a Cubone funeral doom band.

I know the former exists so I'll dip into the deep end and assume the latter does too.
[EDIT]
The Cubone line is for me a Pokémon you eventually relate to and naturally fall in love with as you get older for the same reason as itself.

Cubone was the gateway that made me realize how dark some of the backstory to Pokemon was.
