I am very bad with first listens, like really useless. I listen to even the simplest album loads of times before I have a solid opinion that I can trust myself. But I'll give it a shot.

"Fuck Normality" and the title track I liked a lot. The vocals in general have an even more hardcore-ish feel to them than before which I am not sure about how to judge. I wasn't blown away by it but that's the norm for 99% of the albums I listen to after the first listen.

edit: and the guitar sound/tone is very gritty, I have no idea how this effect is achieved, but I guess - as a musician - you do (?)

I wasn't blown away either tbh. I quite like the "energy" (for lack of a better word) of the album though.

Regarding the guitars, I know how I'd attempt to achieve the tone (or something similar) sure, but of course that doesn't tell me how they did it. It may just be tone pedal that they like or maybe they recorded the guitars with the mic so close to the amps that the recording actually clips/peaks, which gives it a very lo-fi sound. As for how I'd do it, I'd start with a crapton of overdrive when recording and then cut all of the low tones and boost somewhere between 3-4.5 k or even higher in the equalizer in my DAW. As a rule in black metal, low mids and mid tones are almost completely cut and the higher tones are boosted to oblivion either in the mixing or on the amp itself. Some artists cut a lot of the low end too (I don't).

Oh my god, I actually got to feel halfway smart on the internet there for a second...

I strongly suggest the first two full-lengths. Energy and hatred in spades. Also the song The Flowers Of Evil.

Well, I feel a bit dumb myself since I understand all this only partly, but thank you for trying to explain

I shall check those out, thanks! Got some free time atm, so I've been listening to stuff non-stop for days. Feels good to be getting deeper back into all things metal.

My rating on this album probably says more about me than the album. I just find this style of speed black metal insufferable anymore. Very little change of pace here. Just tremolo picked melodies and breakneck speed drumming. Well played to be sure but useless to me much like most modern tech death and prog metal.
