Step by step, the French doom scene extends its mourning grip on the underground world. Funeralium had already stuck a few claws in 2004, when their demo "Ultra Sick Doom", a fair warning to any soul brave enough to plunge into their tortured universe, was generally acclaimed by the experts of the genre. Formed by members of Ataraxie, Funeralium had been a staggering surprise: where Ataraxie's doom death teems with sounds, riffs and musical life, Funeralium chose the minimalist approach. And the result is as breathtaking as it goes.

I like, even when it becomes a little too minimal...

^Exactly. A little too minimal. In my case though, that was exactly what I did not like in an otherwise nice album. There are points where there are just gaps, bordered by great funeral doom on either side. Those gaps have nothing much going on and bored me to the point where I just wanted the album to finish. And funeral doom albums must be long *without* making you feel that way. If these gaps were somehow filled, this would've been a pretty good album. For now, this is about 7/10 for me

Fantastic effort - slightly different in a raw, minimalistic way than their more recent albums, but equally brilliant and even better. Good review up there as well.

A modern classic of disgusting extreme doom. Love the quiet parts on the last two tracks. Cool that they nailed that style from the get go.
