I've been spinning this album quite a bit lately, after owning it for a long time and never giving it the attention it deserves. The album is a little mix of heavy metal and material more at the border of hard rock and heavy metal. Saxon started to build a more aggressive, harder sound in the '90's after their more commercial sounding late '80's albums and with Dogs Of War this was most evident. Again they took another step in the harder direction with Unleash The Beast, and I think they hit it right on with this album.

Another killer Saxon album. I don't know why, but I've only lately listened to this late 90's and early 2000's stuff from them even though my friends and fellow metal mates have been hyping them for decades, and for a very good reason. Saxon is much more than just some early 80's garage cult band.

Wouldn't call myself much of a fanboy even though I really enjoy most of their stuff, even the infamous "Innocence is no excuse", which is at least very enjoyable even if it's full of commercial pop metal. The really bad ones like "Rock the Nations", "Destiny" and the mediocre debut are just too much even for me to swallow. Saxon is one solid band, even if little repetitious at times.

Pretty good one. It's at times the heaviest album by them up to that point and the pure heavy metal direction is welcome. It's not a homerun as some songs feel tired and drags on a bit, I would have prefered a bit shorter songs with more punch. But there's many great tracks here, my favourites are Circle of Light, Cut Out the Disease and Ministry of Fools.
