Explosive. In my humble opinion, that is the best adjective for the self-titled debut of the American angry madmen Rage Against The Machine. Ten times the shockwave of a bomb, right in your face. A catchy, yet vicious message of hate to the authorities, to 'the man'. Ten times a call for battle, to stand for your (their) ideals and to call war upon the enemy, capitalism and the right-wing.

I can still remember clearly the first time I heard the song "Killing in the Name" on the radio and I just couldn't believe the power and the aggression. The swearing really shocked me too. I was a young, innocent, mild-mannered man.

I loved this maaaany years back then, but to be honest except "Killin in the name of" the mighty "wake up" (remember the matrix final scene?) and let's say "Bombtrack" the rest is somewhat the same loop...

Ah, shit. I haven't still come out of the awesomeness in "Killing In The Name".

Still heavily rotates on my playlist.

Rightfully so.
I havent spun this one in the current millenium, I am pretty sure.
But in the previous one certainly 100 times or more.
This album, back at the time, helped me move my teenage ass out of the Nirvana sh.. that engulved me way too much in those days into heavier areas -- and I am still today grateful for this to have happened.

This album is great fun. I remember jamming on 'Know Your Enemy' in 6th form between lessons with my friend who played drums. I played 'Killing In The Name' at my first ever gig around 2010 at a local pub with my covers band.

8.8/10 for me - 'Killing In The Name', 'Know Your Enemy' are the standout songs. 'Bombtrack' is also great, but the others range from ok to good.

A very cool album, I didn't think much to it back then, funnily I always thought of RATM as an angry Aerosmith, but looking back at it now, there is alot more to them than that. I've never been fond of rap vocals, but this I can handle, and it's probably the closest thing to hip hop that I've ever been able to tolerate.
The bass sounds fantastic, and it's one of the grooviest sounding metal albums I've heard. The lyrics are catchy, and pretty decent too, but above all they are very aggressive.

Not every song is great though, some songs imo are pretty poor, but it was off to a flyer with the first three songs, especially with "Killing In The Name".

Yet I prefer him wishing for it while giving an honest rating, instead of rating it 10 just for the sake of it.

Well an 8 is a very good rating and also it deserves the top 200 much more than many of the average power metal and gothic metal releases
