Ah, the good old times. When the desert ground still held tons of gold and could be claimed by those that where swift or cunning enough. When America was still the land of the free, unaware of its future reputation. When outlaws would roam through the wild, looking for little towns with banks to rob. When outlaws were outlaws, in the true sense of the word. The strong arm of the law could not get near them, they lived above it. To truly live as a free man. The dream of every little boy.

Well 'HEX: Or Printing In The Infernal Method' and 'Hibernaculum' is in the same style as this so you should like them too. Everything before that is pretty different though and revolved around drone metal.

thanks for letting me know, but I thought this is drone already? Sorry, I am new to the subgenre (well, still quite new to metal really haha)

There are some that would argue this is a form of drone in some way: those people are insane and wrong. This is pretty much some kind of southern-tinged post-rock or something. Not metal and definitely not drone. The drone releases are basically one long, heavy metal riff for many seconds per time. Slow and crushing, and often layered with distortion etc.

I would definitely call it a form of drone. Obviously it's not really metal, and it is southern-tinged, but that doesn't really mean it's not drone. I'd personally call it something like southern drone post-y-ish stuff.... but I've been trying to disregard genres from now on.... which i'm clearly failing at

I'm sorry but there are no drones of any sort. Just because something is a bit slow doesn't push it into drone territory. I mean come on, drone. You know, drooooone? If Earth hadn't had a history in drone or this was released by another band there wouldn't be a single person on the internet that would ascribe the term "drone" to this album. At very best it's moderately slow and plodding, but there's no textural build up, sustained notes of any unusual length, vanishing point sound etc. It's a very conventional structured and constructed album from what I hear.

And no, it doesn't have to be metal to be drone, but even not-metal drone sounds nothing like this. Stars of the Lid are often considered the archetypal form of non-metal drone, and they sound nothing like this.

In no way, shape or form is this drone. Ever.

Ah i'm in no mood/position/state of mind to argue, plus i hate arguing. I don't really know how i'd define "drone music", considering the dictionary definition of "droning" is something like continuous dull humming sound. In which case i don't know very much droning music at all. But like i said, genres tend to ruin the fun of music for me because if you call something "drone" or melo-death or whatever the fuck there's always gonna be someone... like me... saying you're wrong and stabbing you in the throat with a 5 page definition on whatever genre it happens to be said people are arguing about. So call it what you wish, I'm going to change all of the genres in my itunes library to soft-rock

Liked this album, esp the production helps a lot, but somehow bluesy sound turned me off a little( I am not sure if it's really and literally bluesy, I just think blues would sound like this :|) . I should plan to recheck this asap.

Don't kill me for saying this, but still was actually pretty boring to me. Yes, it might be good music, but there's no progression, just the same thing over and over again. The good thing: it's a damn relaxing album.

Seeing as Rodrigo (Mr. Doctor) rated this a 10, I think I might be screwed next month when he's here in Tilburg.

I 100% agree with this. I don't know much drone, but I've heard enough to know that this is as much drone as Hjarnidaudi is thrash metal.

I would call this Doom/Post-Rock or something. It's not metal either, after all. So the tag "Drone Doom Metal" is only correct for exactly 1/3rd.

Huh? You do realize I changed my username from E.Mols86 to the current one, right? In other words: I have you on Facebook. Or are you implying you never ever bothered to take a look at any of my photos there (not that I have many, aside from the beer photos )?

Hhahahahahahhaha oh man that was awkward. No, I never noticed you changed your username and since we usually talk in album threads, i don't see your avatar so often (did you change it?).

Hahahaha, imagine my confusion (just after discussion Agalloch and Opeth on Facebook).

Then again, the usernames are pretty different, I'll give you that. Also, I changed it not too long ago (saturday I think).

Okay, so I thought this album was pretty great before, but then I tried listening to it on some, shall we say, mind altering substances, and holy hell did it make the experience SO MUCH BETTER. And I'm not saying that the album itself necessarily sounded nicer, I'm saying that playing it is what made my experience more enjoyable overall. I certainly have a better appreciation for this album now.
