I think this album was the first step before the "new" DsO, truly and excellent and underrated album.

(Oh and the main riff from Kenose III is from Tyrants and Slaves and Kenose II interlude is from Procreation Epidemic).

Alright, so their first two albums aren't the greatest, and the first manifestations isn't either, but this one is actually pretty damn good stuff for standard black metal. Like koob said, you can sort of hear their experimental side start to take form on this album--in fact, many of the musical ideas from later albums, such as FAS, SMRC, and Kenose seem to appear here in a primitive form, as if they were still gestating during this period before assuming their full form on each respective album.
