Guest review by

Dutch symphonic/gothic metal band Within Temptation has with their second album, Mother Earth, definitely became one of the most popular bands in their country and in the rest of Europe also. This album contains 10 songs plus some bonus stuff.

In their music is, in my opinion, their main speciality the orchestral sound which is included in almost every song on this album. When I listened to this album for the first time, I got the feeling that the whole orchestra stands behind the band. Generally I quite like symphonic parts in metal music, but not too exaggerated. If I continue, the guitars on the album are mostly in the background, taking care of the rythm, which is quite slow and not too complicated. I could say the same thing for the drums, without any double-bass beats of course.

Rating: 9 I was never and I know that I never will be a fan of Within Temptation, but this is one album of the Dutch band that I really like and consider one of the rare jewels of symphonic gothic metal. Back in those days their music sounded less glossy and more sincere and touching.

I'm still afraid of admitting to my friends that I like this.

Why would you be afraid of admitting that you like a great album?
