"Abra-macabra, baby, here we go!"

The highly innovative Wuthering Heights offer us yet another astonishing piece of folk flavoured power/progressive metal in the album Salt. Never a band to resort to the downtrodden clichés of the oft criticized power metal style, they continue to push the boundaries into heavier and more whimsical territory. So how will this album fare?

Danish power/progressive/folk act Wuthering Heights are back with their 5th full length after four years. And damn the waiting was worth it; they tuned down the folk parts and tuned up the progressive side of things all the while they deliver full on power. Maybe not as good as Far From The Madding Crowd, but certainly a very mature release showing that these guys are not afraid to evolve.

I really don't know what to make of this yet. Definitely their hardest album to get into.
Maybe it's a little too progressive and all-over-the-place for me...

It has a lot of promise, I will give it a good chance.

Also if anyone knows how I can hear the two bonus tracks (Mike Oldfield especially) - please contact me.

It definitely is a grower, and it's rather hard to follow up The Shadow Cabinet. The sea-shanty-like tune of The Mad Sailor is genius imo.

I like Far From the Madding Crowd a lot, but this one is even better.

I should probably check out Shadow Cabinet.

Anyone been able to find the Mike Oldfield cover any where? The only place I've seen it mentioned is in a studio report from the recording of the album and I would really like to hear it

So I finally found something about the Mike Oldfield cover:

Quote:
Hi all,

someone asked about what happened to the song "Discovery" that we recorded during the "Salt" sessions.

Here´s the deal:
This time we hadn´t signed any record deals before we started recording. So besides having to finance it all ourselves, it also meant that we didn´t know the amount of bonus material that would eventually be required.

In the past we´ve usually had to come up with two bonus tracks per album, and so we recorded two this time as well. In the end, when the deals were signed, we had one track too many, namely "Discovery".

So, the track is finished of course - and it´s great - so we´re basically just saving it until we have a use for it.

So time will tell what will happen to the song, but I hope it won´t be too long before you get a chance to hear it.

Cheers,
ERIK

This last record to date from this band, keeps the quality of the previous 2 although it's a little shorter.
