Rating: 10 I just purchased this album, as it's one of the highest rated albums on Metalstorm (that has at least 15 votes) and I wanted to experience it for myself.

I have to say, it's exceptional based on the few listens I've had.

My only disappointment is in the quality of the recording. It sounds very low budget. Whilst this is not the end of the world, it does detract from the overall experience of what could've been a near perfect album.

I guarantee it wouldn't sound nearly as good if the production was "better". It would change the dynamic too much and probably sound like a poncey folk record or something. I love how it sounds almost Ildjarn-y at certain points.

I'm also glad this is maintaining one of the highest scores on here. If it got another positive vote it would probably be made the top album of its year (and would knock the overrated 'The Mantle' off its pedestal, to my amusement).

It deserves a good fan review too, I was gonna do one but I found this quite difficult to write about for some reason.

Now having listened to it many times, I totally agree with you. The recording is, for this style of music, perfect. It lends it a certain atmosphere that would be lost had the production been more polished.

The debut is a bit like this.
Really, Wyrd's earlier albums are so floppingflippingfucking good.

Heathen was very good, though something about it didn't quite hit the right notes. I'm probably just being too picky though.

I've always had trouble deciding whether I like Huldrafolk or Heathen more. They're both absolutely fantastic to me.

Rating: 4 A very simple and average folk metal album, same rhythms at least repeat 10 times in each tracks. I've had better !

As it happens I've spent years trying to find an album similar to this. One that mixes epic, but not cheesy folk, with raw, rough black metal. I'd like to hear the better bands / albums you know of.

I don't think I can recommend any band which is 100% similar to this cause no band would sounds similar to another.
If you talk about general best Black Folk Metal album...I prefer Thyrfing - Vansinnesvisor, Melechesh - Emissaries, etc...more layers and textures.

I'm not asking for something 100% identical, just something that plays vaguely the same kind of music. Thyrfing and Melechesh don't.

None on my mind but they're many.
Usually I skipped this kind of music so I didn't really bother to remember their names.

you think there's better bands like this but you can't think of any? Seems legit.

I mean better kinds of Black Folk Metal.

Rating: 8 I've always liked Huldrafolk as it IS kind of original folk/black approach but for me Wyrd was at the prime with their early demos and of course Heathen.
