This album just seems to be oozing with ideas. Blackened death/grind, thrash, catchy (if not forgettable) hooks, and even some nice stuff which is perfect for walking through the woods in late autumn (the not so mellow kind fyi). I feel the album is almost at its worst when they're trying to straight up black metal. Sometimes it sounds like immortal, but usually sunds unoriginal. Sadly even some of the best parts are hurt by a lack of direction or forethought. The best example of this would be "Abaddon the Destroyer", with its thrash rhythm section which would make any band of the a mentioned genre green with envy....only to be ruined by a consistent power chord melody (it may not actually be a power chord, but it wounds like it to me) slabbed right in the middle of it, simply breaking any momentum of energy brought about by the riff. Maybe it could have been more progressive or better timed, but it just seems so pointlessly tacked on. At times I feel some of the melodies should have really opened up more. Overall, not terribly original and could use more pollish. If this was a new band, I'd say they have some great promise, but they seem to have been around the block for a bit now, and looking at there more recent album, they aren't changing much.
