Shame on me for it taking this long for me to listen to this album. The "ritual use of fire" interludes are a perfect interlude / break from the onslaught that precedes and follows each of them.

So, last weekend I traveled long miles by car and the guy had songs from this album playing during the trip. I was very impressed, which means now I have to check out Cobalt once and for all.

That stuff was intense, chaotic, perfect for a trip too

This might be my favourite album of all times, I can't get bored by the ending of Witherer or Ulcerism it is just so intense. How the hell can this have only ~40 votes ?

I think Gin is the only one of these two classics to rightfully deserve that 10. I love this album, but I don't see it going beyond a strong 9.

Gin's great but I don't see why they watered down what made this album so great with Tool nonsense.

Nope, only six albums deserve a 10 in this world according to me.
Not some 50 odd albums.

Maybe if you're rating objectively. 50 ultra personal, memory-attached albums over 16 or 17 years and thousands of albums is an easy proposition

Eater Of Birds is still an immensely good album. I think I would rate it 8.6 whereas Gin I would rate 9.2 so me for me that is an immense stept up.

Quite surprised no one reviewed this. 2007 release with excellent rating overall, this sure as hell something band has to offer us.

I heard Invincible Sun in 2011 and was quite surprised with kind of music they come up with. Never sat and listen to whole at one go - it was in bits and pieces. But, nonetheless excellent album.

Btw, Phil has left the band recently again. Erik says that songs for the "Slow Forever" are ready and he will record everything by himself in the period of May-June 2015 (most likelt - vocals too).

Eater of Birds is easily the best Cobalt record to date and one of the most underrated albums ever.

Welcome to the party. Cobalt is one of the greatest and most original bands of our time. I would recommend Gin after this album, and the new one, with the Lord Mantis guy on vox is awesome as well.

I do remember checking out Gin, and it very good. I must've checked out the last one too, though I'm unable to recall right now. I think the first Cobalt album I listened to was Eater of Birds, and it didn't take much time for me to conclude that they make really intense and enjoyable black metal. I had a sore neck after some spontaneous headbanging to the song 'Witherer'

My favorite track of theirs it probably the tile track off this one, or Invincible Sun.

Eater Of Birds was my first too. I remember thinking "wow, some original black metal" or some shit like that. While they are not the most original band of our time, it's not very run of the mill. As I once kind of described them on Paz's list (I think that's where it was), I imagine them like Deathspell Omega listened to Revenge, and then slowly got into Tool on their next couple of albums.

Wow this album is insane! So many emotions... this can make me feel all melancholic with "Androids, Automatons and Nihilists", can put me in a fist-pumpin' frenzy with "Blood Eagle Sacrifice", and can make me feel tranquil with "Ritual Use Of Fire I"
