Seventh album Imaginaerum is the band's second with new singer Anette, and comes with the added twist of an accompanying feature-length film next year. Nightwish who have always been at the forefront of symphonic metal, provide this latest addition to the catalogue with good intentions. Although presented as a stand-alone album, it perhaps pushes the line between creative indulgence and focused musicianship too far.

It is because you can add simply anything into your collection, and if such an album exist in database, it is automatically linked...there would be a lot of useless work trying to disallow adding albums that - a) exist in db and b) were not released yet

What ever this album is like, however good, we will get months and months of "I love Tarja".

I don't understand peoples obsession with Tarja, by the standards of many other female singers in metal, she is a long way down my list of favorites.
Praise Tuomas for having the balls to tell her to get lost.

I'm looking forward to the album, I am interesting in what Tuomas will do with Anette Olzen now that she has been around for a long time. Seriously f**k Tarja!

I love the atmosphere Tarja was able to make with her vocals. Way better and more epic than Annete.

That's all.

I don't think its just Tarja that people miss. When I think about Nightwish with Tarja I think about Angels Fall First, Oceanborn and Wishmaster. Thats what I miss, these three albums, that particular style that Nightwish had.

Annette is without a doubt a great singer, but now Nightwish falls into the "meh" category of generic symphonic metal.

Now there you do have a point, but still Nightwish was changing long before Tarja left. Unfortunately that's the way many bands go. A few brilliant albums then a few decades of music that just never quite measures up to that golden era.

The thing about Nightwish is that they still produce high quality music. Their production is impeccable, musicianship is still very good, and song writing remains amazing. My problem with them is that I loved the style of the first three albums.

To me it feels like from Century Child on you get a great first listen experience; mainly because of the bombastic combination of a full blown orchestra and top notch Heavy Metal. But then the songs become shallow and monotonous. While on the other hand you have the three classic albums that somehow always seem to remain fresh.

I am really looking forward to Imaginarium, but I am already expecting "more of the same." I don't think I will be disappointed, but I know that it will sound like the countless Symphonic Metal albums out there, but with a much bigger budget.

Nightwish are still good in all of those area's, it is the same with many bands, they still remain 'good' but their style changes for whatever reason (ie time, money, patience, or boredom) They many go back to that sound at some point, but the fact is they have changes since the days of Oceanborn/Wishmaster and they are unlikely to return to that style. Just like Metallica are unlikely to ever produce another Master of Puppets.

Listened to the Single once. Not bad, but not exactly wow-ed either. Wish the guitars are a bit more prominent in the mix.
