Yes, for me too. Imo ''A Grave Inverse'' is the best song ever created by Ihsahn in this project.
I have listened to the whole album now, and it is a little better than I thought. ''The Barren Lands'' and the album title ''After'' are horrible, and kinda have ruined my good thoughts of Grave Inverse.
The other songs are pretty good thou, best Ihsahn work by far.

A Grave Inversed and Undercurrent rock. This is my first experience with Ihsahn, but what a way to kick off 2010!
Clear Yakuza influence, though...

Love it. Love it. Love it. Love it. Absolutely seamless front to back, and follows suit from the last album well without being a mindless repetition. Absolutely love it.

Much, much better than the other two solo releases. This is a very original, emotional work which left a smile on my face for a long time. An incredible way to kick off 2010 and will probably end up being one of the best albums of the year by far.

Profound album....you really hear the Emperor coming through in some of the songs! Much heavier and that 8-string brings another dimension. Big step up from the first 2 albums....still getting my head wrapped around it so my rating might still go up, epic.

Okay I never go after MS votes actually (except for some single users with taste here and there). But this looks really good and I loved "angL". Might pick this one up next week.

I still need to listen to this more, but this is way better than his last two albums. I think he'll incorporate more singing from now on, which is fine with me since his growls haven't been good in years.
I hate the last song, but the rest went above my expectations.

Don't have it yet, but I heard some of the songs and it sounds really awesome and progressive. Very much akin to Strapping Young Lad and Devin Townsend's solo work. Can't wait to get a hold of this.

I'm really wishing that he didn't use his harsh vocals. Or at least, get someone else to do them. I think his clean vocals work quite well in the passages I've heard. Not to mention, I quite enjoy the instrumentals. Progressive in the vein of Winds (Norway). I don't know about the sax, but hey, it's kind of '70s right?
It sounds pretty good. Nothing I'd probably buy, but good nonetheless. I just can't enjoy his harsh vocals though. They seem out of place. If he'd just team up with Garm or Marco Hietala or Simen Hestnæs...

This album takes awhile to get into, but it's the best of Ihsahn's solo work yet. The inclusion of screeching saxophones work well with the heavy black metal riffs. My favorite surprise of 2010 yet.

Conveys the desolate mood of the cold frozen wastes of another planet (or Norway) perfectly. Very strong contender for Prog of the year. Undercurrent and On the Shores are brilliant and timeless masterpieces and the Sax, no matter how "novelty factor for the sake of it" it may be, really pushes the envelope for the album.

I can't stand that devin townsend/syl sound ihsahn has added to this album. A decent work it is, but nothing like the first two records. Ihsahn has evolved in every album so far, that it's not a big problem for me that this record exists, if the next one will be something different. The saxos' are ok, but on the other side of the coin, slightly ruin the soundtrack/doomy atmosphere here and there when they go soloing.

What exactly is that... the production? I agree that many albums this year were over-produced, taking the rawness and atmosphere out, but didn't think this was one of them.

Mostly the style how guitars, bass and drums sound; which of course are part of the production too. still the production overall has succeeded, maybe not my cup of tea. so the sound is now closer to what i mentioned: townsend/syl. Also some melodies, solos and song structures are a little closer to townsend. ok, i can stand this sound, but i would had been happier if ihsahn had chosen some other way to stay fresh.

I understand now, can definitely hear some Townsend-esque styles in this album, that may be why I like this one more than Ihsahn's previous efforts

HI. Excause my English, i'm from Ukraine. Our fans of Ihsahn have great request to english-speaking fans. It's about "After". SOMEBODY! please, write here lyrics from this album of Maestro, at least one song each. You can find 5 minutes of your own time and History won't forget it!!! :] there are no lyrics in Web, but i think, that listening to Ihsahn, most of your understand it by ear. We here discern only type words - cause of Maestro's extreme vocal :[ United Metal appeals to your ears! :]]] Russia, Belarus and Ukraine - here are thouthands of fans of Ihsahn and Emperor and nobody knows where to find lyrics of "After" even in English... With hope - Sergey.

Such an interesting album, definitely one of my best of the year. I love the use of saxophone, such a treat, but the atmosphere is what makes this album. The atmosphere provides such a unique cradle for the instrumentation and melodies to grow.
Love it.

Prog metal fans should really check out this album, for me it is the best one that 2010 gave us.
Awesome raw and clean vocals, fretless bass, intense riffing and the incorporation of the sax make of this album, if not multiple orgasm generator, an interesting listen.
