I wasn't sure if this was gonna be good... Benighted have gotten close to Deathcore, the ultimate shitgenre before, but had not crossed line yet. This album, tho, does go that far at some points, but not like it's not like it would be a problem. We might have some -core here, but as long as it's good, who cares?

-core yes, but not deathcore, its clean grindcore and goregrind influence. Something like Dying Fetus (not exactly) Rest is fuckin brutal death metal. Brutal death + grindcore was always killing mix, and so it is this album. Great work.

Actually, no. If you fail at combining them you'll be creating the biggest crap ever. BUT, if you do it well, it's just mindblowing (like here).

I just bought this album and it's really good - more energetic than Icon, but still doesn't beat Identisick.

Even though it's not as good for me as Icon or Identisick, this is still in my top 5 for 2011.

I've barely touched this record since I commented on it on the review. I thought it might occupy my mp3 player a bit because their past records did but it doesn't seem to have found its way beyond the odd song being played.

No, just no, the pig squeals on this record are hideous and disruptive, even if taken humorously. Wretched. Swallow is the best track on the album but still prone to most pig-squeal abuse.

First album to expose me to the intricate music of this amazing band. Absolutely one of the best brutal death metal albums to caress my beaten ears.

Promoting this to a 10. Can't get enough of it. Which is kind of a problem. I keep noticing that other albums aren't Asylum Cave and getting upset.
Edit: Back to a 9. I'd been drinking.

This is the first album of Benighted that I have heard. And I am truly disappointed in myself that I did not discover them before. After hearing some rather average albums for the past few weeks, this album just came along and blew my mind at how good it is. Definitely going to have a look at their back-catalogue now.

I think the last minute of "Lethal Merycism" shows that thin line with -core. great album though. and there are some exquisite drums in it. A 7 in my opinion.

Retarded pig squeals really mar this record.
I think a revolutionary idea for album would be to go to a farm, go to a section with lots of pigs, bring a portable amp and just start shredding over REAL pig squeals from actual pigs. That would be awesome.
I gotta agree though listening to this the pig squeals/vocals can kill it at times. For me anyways. Don't think this band is for me.

Damn, first ever brutal death album I've listened to and didn't have high hopes for it, but the instrumental is pure killer. The overall vocals aren't on par with the instrumental still.

Awesome album. I didn't expect it to be so catchy and brutal at the same time. Plus some wicked leads here and there.
