Rejoice, oh desolate ones! Niklas Kvarforth and the rest of the self-destructive mentally disordered vehicle named Shining, along with some guests, are back with their seventh rope around your neck. Född Förlorare (=Born Loser - hence the cover of human remains waiting for nothing at the end of the street) its name and as you might have already guessed, it's the natural continuation of Klagopsalmer.

I'm sorry, that's not enough for you? Because I didn't really think I needed another reason. It's Shining, it's Kvarforth, it's fucked up and you're fucked up whether or not you like it so join the party and get fucked. Fuck.

Uirapuru - 15.01.2010 at 05:15
Yeah. Klagopsalmer was a bit disappoiting, althou not bad.
Zuzuz0r - 17.01.2010 at 07:22
  Last song: FFFUUU?, lol jk.

And hope this to be good, Klagopsalmer wasn't THAT bad, but it could be way better.

Rating: 7 Klagopsalmer is second on my Black metal list in 2009 and it is not bad it is just not like the previous two

"Erik Danielsson and Nordman as guest vocalists" this should be intresting

Someone knows the exact release date??

It was suppose to be March/April... we're in May and nothing still
lordrandall - 04.05.2010 at 00:16
Klagopsalmer was alright, probably my least favourite shining album. it was a bit too rock and roll for my taste. the only upside was kvaforths improvement on his clean vocals. hopefully this one is more experimental for the better this time around.
AbdelioR - 13.05.2010 at 21:30

Tsohgtlvka - 06.11.2010 at 04:38
This has been delayed until february according to what Kvarforth said onstage at their 25/10 gig
Lord Nifiel - 30.11.2010 at 03:18
Yeah, Kvarforth stated "probably february" on the 27/11 gig too, so hopelly there will be both this and and lifelovers new album that month!

IV and V do have atmosphere as well but not as suffocating as anything before that.

I try V on a regular basis, just to see if I can get on the bandwagon, but every time it just seems like a bit of a messy and confused record. IV is probably a lot better than I'm remembering to be honest, it's been years since I listened to it.

I haven't checked out VI at all so you can imagine the chock I got from listening to this album since V was the last stuff I ever heard from Shining.
Really dissapointing, It sounds fake.

Indeed. Some hate it, some love it - fans and newcomers alike. Gotta love differing tastes.

Rating: 8 As the first Shining album that I have heard, I must say I definitely like this band and look forward to hearing their previous work. Now if only I could understand Swedish !!

I remember you were theorizing what FFF stood for.

I think I discovered the answer.

Maybe now you'll appreciate this album a little more.

I could stretch to IV but V was the start of a major downfall where this band, and my tastes, are concerned.

The proof that tastes are so different: V is the beginning of the best part of Shining. I agree BM fans got disapointed. I'm also a prog/jazz/avantgarde fan so it was a nice surprise. I listen to a lot of BM though
Kenos - 23.11.2011 at 13:16
Has drastically lost points, for me. Initially I gave it something like a 9 or a 10, then 7-8; now I find it a bit fake, at times even awkward, and overall too polished and inexpressive. I usually change my mind about an album after one year or more since the first listens, but this one has aged miserably after just a handful of months. Pity.

Admittedly my score dropped as well - from a high 8 to a low 8 so it wasn't really drastic, but it's just that as more and more albums were released it didn't stand up to them. I still like the album for all it is, but this year just has a few more releases that push it further down the charts.

Rating: 8 I have to say this is the best Opeth release of the year.
EdguyAsFuck - 16.01.2012 at 11:48
Rating: 9 I'm not getting the mixed response here, I think this is some excellent stuff. I love the Opeth-esque acoustic breaks with the clean vocals, and the riffs are absolutely killer. The Nordman singer's parts on Tillsammans Är Vi Allt are awesome, and I love the solo piano song. Kvarforth may be somewhat of an asshat, but I have to admit, he's a genius metal songwriter
Czerny Reiter - 13.03.2012 at 23:39
Rating: 7 My first taster of Shining. I quite like the album but it flags terribly at times, leading me to believe that the man can do much better. The first track is a definite standout, though.

You should listen to their entire catalog. But III - V is their optimum release period.

Agreed on the first track, too. I really enjoyed this album but I would have loved it even more had the rest of the album lived up to the opener.

You have my word that if all the songs were of the quality of the first one... I would have given this album at least a low 8. I really REALLY like that song which stops me from actually hating this album. Even the clean vocals from the first track weren't used again (or if they did use them... They totally lack the punch).

Like Troy said: III, IV and V... their best albums imo.

Heh, if V was the beginning of the best part of Shining... it was a short ride indeed. I love V but all of a sudden Shining sucked after that album. The fair amount of taste I have for prog/jazz/avantgarde didn't help at all with this album as I didn't see so many elements of those... Maybe some prog and jazz but definitely nothing avantgarde here to these ears.
