After the disappointing The Scyte and the encouraging but not memorable Two Tragedy Poets (...And A Caravan Of Weird Figures) the folk power metal scene was expecting a continuation in Elvenking's return to their original quality. It hasn't come.

Red Silent Tides was gifted me by my classmates for my 16th birthday, and I went mad with joy: in fact, at the time I had only listened to the great Heathenreel and Wyrd, and I was not aware of the Italian band's recent decay.

Rating: 8 "The Cabal" sounds very catchy but too poppy to my taste... Hope the other tracks will be more metal.
Anibx - 09.08.2010 at 05:31
Hope the other tracks have more folk. I discover Elvenking with Two Tragedy Poet, I'm not sure if I like the metal side of them.

I like the cover art a lot! Looking forward to this album.
Ellrohir - 30.08.2010 at 23:49
I dont like the cover, but who would care, if the music will be great enough?
Wishmaster - 05.09.2010 at 15:06
I have it, but I haven't listened to it, yet, but I have a feeling it would be like The Scythe. I hope not.

Rating: 10 This album is extremely awesome. Sounds very great & worth buying.
Burning Winter - 08.09.2010 at 05:42
Leaked on the internet. Sounds like Pop metal, but taken apart from their older albums (which were more folk and more metal to me) it is quite decent^^

Burning Winter the open minded 8-) lol
Graveshift - 08.09.2010 at 12:55
The cabal lacks a lot of the folk spirit we have come to expect of elvenking, i hope this is not evident in the rest of the album, which hopefully will be a lot more folk.
Ellrohir - 11.09.2010 at 22:19
The presented song and the video was awful...i am afraid i cannot expect too much from the rest now

It looks like "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" on N64.

This shit is absolutely delicious! Love this band and they are keeping it heavy which is awesome.
Stabby - 18.09.2010 at 04:57
Rating: 8 This album is stunning. It is hard to call it all metal but there are definitely folk metal songs, or at least predominantly folk songs. Damna's voice is incredible and the slick, polished and powerful songwriting is spectacularly catchy. I can't say that I like it more than Heathenreel or The Winter Wake but it is a huge step up from The Scythe.

And, yes, Runereader is dope. That one could have come straight out of classic Elvenking.

Rating: 4 The most generic crap this band has made. Boring and awful. Too bad because they used to be half decent

Rating: 9 Not their best but very good. This band ALWAYS releases nice stuff (even I liked very much The Skythe)
Derwood - 26.09.2010 at 05:35
The appeal of this music utterly eludes me. All I hear are lame formulaic pop songs with a bit of guitar in them; I don't hear anything that sounds remotely metal in it at all. There's no crunch, no oomph, no aggression, no balls whatsoever. It's like metal's embarrassingly lame cousin that just won't go away no matter how hard you try to ditch him. It has more in common with Britney Spears than Iron Maiden.
R'Vannith - 29.09.2010 at 16:18
Rating: 7 Their best since The Winter Wake and a return to form in my opinion. Highlights for me were 'Runereader', 'Your Heroes are Dead', 'Those Days' and 'The Play of Leaves'.

Runnereader: One of their best tracks in years.

"in years" you meant between The Scythe and this?
