Geez, what a lame title. lol I can only hope that the song is better the title...

Im sure "Im Free" isnt about John Inman.
RavenKing - 31.07.2010 at 18:04
Lame title, indeed. But it's not new, coming from Helloween. They have lots of extremely lame and childish song or even album titles in their very inconsistent discography. That's what is so annoying with this band: you never know if it will be listenable or pure shit.
Their lack of maturity and serious makes me sick at times because it looks not like humor but like sheer retardation.

Rating: 8 Title is maybe a question for us..i shure hope that songs are better..and i agree that the some titles in the past are weird but not reason to hate them..they are good band with some great and some bad songs..i listen Helloween almost 14 years with ups and downs and i like them..and yes they can do alot better but what band is perfect after 25 years on stage..we will see where they are on this album..hope they are going up!!!:)

Just heard the song "Are You Metal?" and it is definitely very heavy for Helloween. (though the keyboards dilute this a bit, but its okay, cos they fit) And one section is very fast. Not quite blast beats, but very fast still. This section is the fastest thing Helloween has ever done. Listening to the lyrics, they seem to be loaded with irony, and quite clever. Not cheesy at all. It sounds like it's from the point of view of a tr00 metal "warrior", bashing certain metalheads for not being metal. lol Far better than Gamma Ray's weak "To The Metal". (the song) Awesome song, hope the rest of the album is this good! xD

Well, the only mp3 Ive been able to get of the song thus far, is 128kbps, which is low quality. That probably does account for the sound not being great. The album should sound a lot better. But even with the crappy sound, the song is still great!

I didnt change my mind about the song, I only said the title was silly. Although if Im right about the meaning of the song, then the title becomes less silly. lol Im also using a laptop, with crappy inbuilt speakers, which isnt helping the sound any either.

You dont happen to have the other 2 songs on the single do you? I could only find the song "Are You Metal?", not the single.

The single I just downloaded is 227 kbps, so much better than the other one. lol

"Are You Metal?" is definitely the heaviest of the 3 songs, and the most striking. "Raise The Noise" is a great sounding metal track, with an awesome opening riff. And the harmony part of the solo is very Maidenish. Anthemic chorus too.

"I'm Free" which is the only song on the single which wont be appearing on the album, is more hymnic. A more traditional Helloween speed song. Though the final 10 seconds has a riff heavier than the rest of the song, and is a good surprise ending! lol Im so glad Markus has beome more active in the band's songwriting on the past few albums. He's written some of the band's best songs on more recent albums. xD

Rating: 1 The last two songs are good in my book, but the title track is the weakest on the single. Can't hear all the lyrics but the "are you metal x3, are you x2, are you metal, heavy metal, are you x2" is very boring.

didnt find problem hearing lirics in this song..but i agree that constant repeating is boring in any song..!

Meh, the "Are You Metal?" chorus has NOTHING on "The Angel And The Gambler" as far as repetition goes.

haha..yes i hate when Maidens doo that..10 times repeating the same line is killing the song for me..:P

I dont like the song "Are you metal?"...didnt listened to other two yet (cant find them on youtube, lol)

edit: ok, at least Raise The Noise isn't that bad...but still...
Angelic Storm - 24.09.2010 at 05:35
Im 95% sure that the question Are you metal? in the song is ironic, in which case answering "Im not metal" to criticise the song is funny.

I think this is probably the best way to kill a song. And that's true for any band in any genre. You grow tired of it quite fast.

I totally agree. The first 2 choruses of "Are You Metal?", has the chorus line repeated only twice, and the last chorus at the end which has a key change is repeated 4 times. Which isnt enough to bring the song down for me. "The Angel And The Gambler" is an extreme example, but there's no need for that type of repetition. Same with "Dont Look To The Eyes Of A Stranger" off the same album. I think Steve Harris must have been on something when he wrote those, or too much strong coffee!

It was indeed done to a ridiculous degree on "Virtual XI". But you know what I think of this garbage record.

it may be ironic, but the song sucks...and claiming the song sucks on purpose and therefore it is good in fact, would be very, very strange...
