Badass album with a badass cover. Certainly a viable candidate to crack the Top 20 this year.

It's got traces of hardcore in it, but is predominantly a progessive album, and a good one. Go ahead and give it a spin, I think you'll find out what I mean.

I have previously disliked BoO's sound in the past, particularly on their last album. Would this album do anything to change my mind? I don't want to even listen to a song unless it is going to blow me away.

You could give "Follow the Signs" or "Singularity" a try and find out if it's to your liking. I haven't really heard the other albums, so can't really comment on that, sorry.

Bands like this give me hope for the future of metal. It could still do with less chugging, but is amazing for deathcore standards, and significantly above average for metal in general.

Most of this Djent stuff I just can't get into, sounds far too repetitive to me. This particular example is average at best, and the vocals are beyond awful.

I also dislike the vocals in this band.

:/ For some reason I thought Born of osIris or something.
I believe (paraphrasing jupitreas here) the djent sound is only riff-based here*, but it's predominantly a deathcore album with progressive elements.
* although I thought the genre was riff-based

That's what I would have said.
And I thought it was 'progressive' in the sense that it combines deathcore and djent?

Fuck I don't even know, I only bothered listening to one song back when it was reviewed by Thryce.

Heh, don't blame you I only listened through twice. It's very samey (as I find most djent to be) throughout and definitely not something I'd return to in a hurry.

Yeah, I disagree with you. It's clearly deathcore to me. I never thought about Djent while listening to this album.

I think it's deathcore also, surprising that you didn't hear the djent in it? Unless what i'm hearing is just plain old deathcore, despite the tag 'progressive'. I couldn't say really, I'm not very familiar with deathcore to start with.

Well, I did get the djent vibe but just right after you guys started to talk about it. But this is in no way normal deathcore and I'm glad for it.
A more regular sound would be All Shall Perish (latest album was pretty good imo).

As much as I usually can't stand deathcore, this particular release really did it for me. Guess it's because there is something more, maybe some progressive or djent vibe like you guys say.
Anyway it's a very strong release, and a must hear for those willing to give deathcore a second chance.

Yup! I really like this album, it's super catchy and very well done. Deathcore done right! Most deathcore gets boring about 1-2 songs in for me, but, The Discovery stays really consistent ALMOST all the way through. There are still hiccups here and there with some bland vocals and some uninspired riffs, but that's bound to happen to any band.

Despite having WAY too many songs for its own good, Discovery does have some awesome highs. The reimagined use of -core blast beats in a melodic fashion, the space of metal silence accentuating the metal vibe, and the use of keyboard to fill in that space with atmospheric awesomeness. Sadl not every song pulls this off and many of the tracks after the halfway point just start getting uninspiring and bland. Overal I'm really excited to see where this band goes.

Very surprised, pleasantly! I'm not one to enjoy Deathcore, but this was actually really good. Lead guitarist is wonderful, some of those solos are grand!
