Tales Of Creation is the last album the legendary Candlemass released in the 1980s. A concept album concerning the origin of life, this is the record that bassist/principle songwriter Leif Edling began working on even before the band's classic 1986 debut, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. After ditching the project and recording three highly influential doom classics, Edling and the boys decided to tackle the project once again. This is the last Candlemass release to include the mighty vocals of the renowned Messiah Marcolin until the 2005 self-titled reunion album, thus ending the four-album run most fans refer to as the band's "classic period".

The first four Candlemass albums shouldn't be missed out in any Doom metal lover's collection. This, the band's fourth and last release in the 80's, shows them to sound even more mysterious and menacing than ever before. A few too many interludes (there should really only have been one minute-long song so as not to disrupt the flow slightly) for my liking, but the longer songs more than make up for it.

Why did they have to re-record Under The Oak and include it in the album? It sounds so... inferior to the version from Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. Without mention that Messiah's voice don't fit.

Like was said already here, their re-recording of "Under The Oak" is pretty weak. That said, still a great album, "A Tale of Creation" is one of the best songs they ever made.
