Back into Sumeria with the latest Melechesh! For those unfamiliar with the band, they play Melodic Black Metal with a special tribal flavour, including traditional folkloric instruments. Their peculiar sound has often been labeled "Mesopotamian" or "Sumerian".

Proud successor to 2003's "Sphynx", "Emissaries" seems to continue the primordial saga of the ancient lands. Musically, the emphasis has been shifted solely to the guitar parts compared to their previous album, which was more focused on the duo traditional instruments and guitars. This makes "Emissaries" a lot thrashier than any previous Melechesh album.

The guitars on this album are: tremendous, outstanding, really incredible. 10 on the production. "The Scribes Of Kur" is the best folk instrumental song from Melechesh, beautiful. By the way, the begining of "Leper Jerusalem" remember me to Nirvana =) My favorite song is "Rebirth Of The Nemesis (Enuma Elish Rewritten)". This is a brutal record, from start to end.

MASTERPIECE.

Sphynx is more dense than this in that sense.

The boyfriend just got into these guys and I've heard the album a couple of times while at his place. Pretty catchy stuff, especially with the way it starts. Both headbangable and danceable.

It's quite a brilliant record imo. Their theme feels so autentic due to they doing their homework and actually writing most if not all their riffs in the right scales so they get "that" oriental sound but still being Black/thrash based.... Just being able to do that and not sound forced is great.

Finally got a copy of this album. I must say it's my favorite by these guys. It was the first one I listened back when Myspace still was a thing hahahaha. It didn't really change anything from Sphynx... It just too the same elements and added a +1 on everything. I just love the crunchy sound of those riffs and the drumming is fucking intense (not surprosing considering it's from the mad man behind Absu's drumkit).

Hey, Proscriptor isn't the drummer on Emissaries if you meant it, it is Yuri.

It's not Proscriptor drumming. It's Yuri Rinkel of Thanatos.

EDIT: I see someone Vikcen beat me to correcting you.

Haha, my bad. I guess I made the mistake because he IS present in the album but just as a guest vocalist. In any case, crazy drumming on this album.

A Nice Guy
It's a very enjoyable melodic black metal album indeed, with a stunning guitar sound and seriously catchy riffs, and a great middle eastern quality sound to it. Great album to get you in the mood for a good headbanging desert party.

Found no skippable tracks, especially the tracks "Rebirth Of The Nemesis", "Ladders To Sumeria", and "Emissaries And The Mysterium Magnum", but the rest is pretty damn good too. "Scribes of Kur" was decent bit of folk to break things up and add a wee bit more variety to the album.
