We had to wait 5 years for a new release from Tool. Is 10,000 Days worth the wait? Well, the answer is a definitive yes, although this album is not actually Tool's best.
10,000 Days starts misleadingly with two quite accessible numbers in the form of "Vicarious" and "Jambi". The first is pure gold single material with its superb riff, phenomenal buildup and clever lyrics. "Jambi" is more meandering but still very memorable. Sadly, this is when it all falls apart. Halfway through the "Wings" duo, we realize that the band has absolutely no intention of being on the same page as the listener. The album becomes a meandering mess that requires very careful listening and even then doesn't gel into a very cohesive whole. It seems that Tool took their progressive leanings way too far this time around and committed the crime of self-indulgence, sacrificing the very important element of flow. I would be willing to overlook this lack of cohesion if closer listening resulted in the discovery of some really phenomenal things; however, this is not the case here. "The Pot" and "Rosetta Stoned" are very good and the rest of the tracks are acceptable. This is a far cry from Tool's previous, nearly flawless album Lateralus and is a bit of a disappointment.
Cool thing you can do with this album is make a play list of "viginti tres" and "wings for Marie" in that order play those two over 10 000days and they make a super song.

Holy shit, that is a helluva find. Thanks for the info. I wonder if someone actually did this...
Great Tool album!! I love everything about it, especially the unique way that it is packaged. This is a really spacy head trip of an album that will never get old. I want a copy on Vinyl, but I do believe that it is over $50!!
Really love the song "Vicarious" - reckon that's a killer. Also dig "The Pot". I suppose I like the more straight forward rocking numbers than the more progressive, weirder stuff.
I just bought this album yesterday, and I have to say that it is a very interesting listen and the songs are really, really good. The first half of the album is amazing and then the middle kinda drops off after "The Pot" but then picks back up with "Rosetta Stoned." Love this album and can't wait to hear their new material later this year!

I always held Lateralus over this album, but I have to say in the past year or so I've found myself really growing fond of 10,000 Days, arguably to a level higher than Lateralus, although that might partly be because I listened to Lateralus so much it lost some of its freshness. Still, removing the pointless interlude tracks, I strongly like pretty much every song on the album apart from maybe Intension. Jambi, 10,000 Days, The Pot, Rosetta Stoned and Right In Two are all brilliant
All these years later and still I can't get into 10,000 Days or Wings For Marie. A playlist without them is almost a perfect album.
for me it's almost the opposite haha. Wings Pt. 2 is easily my favourite song of theirs and has a real emotional edge to it. Meanwhile the rest of the album is basically filler to me...
