It's 2011, and the last thing you're expecting to see is a crew of pirates hunting Viking ships. Well, that's what Back Through Time offers. One of the most drunken bands of the scene, Alestorm, is back with a killer album!

Since from the first song, the title track, the band puts more attention and application into their riffs, making them more original and powerful, comparing to their previous efforts. Back Through Time's beginning reminded me of DragonForce for the first seconds, then Bowes' rough voice guided me back some centuries ago, against northern gods and enemy drakkars.

Thrash Talker
I think that what I dislike the most about bands like Alestorm is that they could incorporate real pirate stories, or talk a bit of historical events and the likes, but they barely scratch the surface of a fascinating subject. Of course I'm not talking musically here, strictly lyrically. But there was pirates all over the world with different cultures, some with extraordinary stories that are very hard to believe, but instead they just stick to Booze, Petty Piracy, Finding Treasure and Sea Beasts (myths) and frankly, it gets pretty boring. Anyways that's my opinion. It doesn't remove anything from the music though, but nothing in the lyrics makes me wanna listen.
