This just might be my 2nd or 3rd favorite Rush album. It is one of their "heaviest" sounding releases for sure. I love every song but "Animate" has the best lyrics ever!

Rush's first album in the wake of the grunge explosion (with the adult contemporary styled "Roll the Bones" coming out just weeks before Nirvana's "Nevermind") is definitely a hard hitting release and the heaviest production they released at the time. If "Presto" symbolized a turn away from the synth-based releases of the 1980s, "Counterparts" shows Rush completing the turn and capitalizing on a heavy, guitar driven sound with gusto and confidence. There's a lot of really good songs on here like "Animate," "Nobody's Hero," "Speed of Love," "Cut to the Chase," and "Stick it Out" and it's just a really solid release to go through. Very enjoyable album.

Ordinary men hate solitude. But the Master makes use of it, embracing his aloneness, realizing he is one with the whole universe (Lao Tzu).

Listening to the album after rather long time, forgot how great it is.
