With 3 Inches Of Blood's last album Here Waits Thy Doom, we saw the band step back from the super-compressed digital recording style they once had, and moved into an organic style direction. Now, despite being a well-written album, the recording style gave it the impression of being a quiet, lazy sounding album. Well, as it may come as great news to some, Long Live Heavy Metal is a much more heavy hitting album, despite being a slight step backwards in song writing consistency.

24.05.2012 You know what? This was a hard album to grow attached to. While it may not contain instantaneously infectious 3 Inches' anthem classics like "Deadly Sinners", "Trial Of Champions" or "Battles And Brotherhood", you'll find tracks like "Dark Messenger", "4000 Torches", "Leave It On The Ice" and "Men Of Fortune" still cram-packed with great riffs, which is, at their core, what this band is all about.

Excuse the fanboy moment.

Damn I hate album titles that contain the word 'metal'. So unoriginal and uninspired.

Rating: 9 "Metal Woman"? I'm worried.

"Die For Gold (Upon The Boiling Sea IV)"? I'm intrigued.

Rating: 9 "Leave It On The Ice"

There's no way that song isn't about the Vancouver hockey riot.

Meh. I only liked the instrumentals.

Rating: 8 I've never heard these guys before but damn that vocalist is nearly identical to Jon Oliva. Not quite the same range but very similar, the cleans anyway.

Rating: 9 This reminds me of Advance and Vanquish. glad to see they found their roots again after Here Waits Thy Doom

Rating: 6 Kinda disappointed. Brought their A game in the riff department, just doesn't seem to have the energy HWTD has as a whole.

Altogether I'm pleased. Though, this is one of those albums that tears me between "critic mode" and "fan mode". In "fan mode" I love it because it sounds like a combination of a lot of their best aspects, though not quite on par with HWTD for me. In "critic mode" I don't like it as much...It's very much a rehash of their older stuff.

yeah, that's probably the biggest problem for me with this. Their only album I regularly put on now is HWTD, and this definitely feels more like their older stuff. Not a regression or anything, Here Waits is just the tits.
