I have never liked CoF because of the image they've made of themselves in recent times, however this album, as well as its predecessor "Dusk and Her Embrace," are enough to make me think otherwise.
I will start off by saying that this equals, if not surpasses, the quality found on "Dusk..." Not only is the production improved from previous releases but also musically and lyrically they have outdone themselves, and for the last time I might add. What I like most about this is the background, or rather the foundations of the album, which for those of you who don't realise, are based on the legend of Elizabeth Bathory (the blood countess). Every song is like a chapter of a novel, so whenever I do listen to it I have to listen to it from the very beginning without missing a track, I find it a lot more enjoyable that way, but I'm sure many of you just want me to talk about the musical side of it, so I'll cut to the chase.

Excellent album, and surely COF's best. Apart from the unnecessary 'Venus in Fear' everything else on this album is well written. If there is one thing that cradle of filth are good at,its making concept albums such as this.

This along with GotDT are my favorite Cradle albums. Bathory Aria is a extreme symphonic metal masterpiece and the rest of the album is just as creepy and breathtaking. A must for CoF fans.

Cradle of Filth is a piece of shit ! Never released any good album as this band's line up has not been consistent. That's you can find their music very estranged... due to their members hardly know each other. Most of their albums are "one off" project. What a terrible band.
okay. cool opinion man. CoF is not for you no need to get so worked up.

I don't think they are genuine musician (the founder), just someone making some creepy sound effect and claimed himself a musician.
okay.. well CoF is obviously more than "creepy sound effect" they use all the standard components to a song, verses, chorus, bridge etc. so that is not a very valid argument. youll actually find you can get your point across if you acknowledge the facts then claim your side of the opinion. anyway this is not the appropiate place for this discussion anyway, you should take this up in the forums if you want to bitch some more.

This was the first black metal album I heard. Since I'm not a fan of their later material I was surprised when I listened to this a while ago it was still good.
