A lot of people were perturbed by Aaskereia's rather nifty 'Mit Raben und Wölfen' record due to the unusually wail-y vocals present, despite being a top notch display of ultra catchy pagan black metal. Regardless, returneth they do with their first full length in over 7 years and they haven't lost it, in fact they've grown in maturity exponentially. While the shrieks are still present they're combined with a veritable amada of other vocals styles from dramatic cleans, deathly growls and even a hint of Attila inspired insanity - Grim (yes Grim) is an extremely versatile vocalist. All serve exceptionally well to the driving, melody drenched black metal akin at times to Nagelfar's indomitable 'Hünengrab im Herbst' record.

Quality crap.

I was surprised to discover myself enjoying this even after hearing the clean chants, which often turn me off. In this case I think the atmosphere is too thick and the melodies are so captivating that I overlooked that apparent "pagan" sub-genre aspect and just focused on what an awesome black metal album this really is. His shrieks are amazing though!

So I'm new to the band but WOW this album is beautiful! Looks like a seven year break was productive for the band. It didn't feel remarkably "pagan black" to me so much as potentially "symphonic black" instead. No matter - great music

I didn't get pagan black from it at all, and not that much symphonic either... Just atmospheric. Like you said though, it's good shit either way.

If only more pagan/folk-influenced BM could be like this... It really does send a feeling of wonder and adoration towards nature which is what I always want for metal that tries to venture in these styles.

Curse me for not giving this more attention over the years.

I fucking loved the shrieks from the very first song as well as those acoustic guitars in the background. Then the clean vocals appeard in the second track and I was totally sold.
Quality "pagan" black metal. They don't make it like this anymore.

Nope, they don't. I'm very much hoping these guys kick it into gear and get something else out. If they're even still together.
