Congrats to the label who released this compilation, calling it Metal Years - Gothic Doom nonetheless.
pity that Christian Death, one of the best gothic (N O T metal, but that genre called deathrock in the U.S.A) bands ever, NEVER had anything to do with metal - unless we consider the horrible metal project of their nowadays bassist - for the simple reason that they NEVER played metal at all; besides, this song belongs to the Eighties.
Then we have four songs by My Dying Bride, Moonspell, Tristania and The Sins who aren't absolutely representative of the genre since they're quite fast and midtempo-ish, especially if compared to other songs from other albums by these bands, when you're up to a selection of slow and decadent gothic-doom metal (or doom-gothic, if the former has more impact than the latter). And shall we talk about the song they chose for Theatre of Tragedy? "Machine", from their industrial album - no bad notes attached, I love it, be it clear.
and to finish happily, Cathedral and Candlemass who I bet my balls would shiver in horror thinking of them playing "gothic doom" - something I think they simply don't, if my ears and brain didn't ever betrayed me.
i dare every passionate listener of this genre to say i'm wrong  so folks, better stay far from this!

I don't think it means "gothic doom", but "gothic / doom", as in two separate genres. There's a bit of both on here and obviously it's not a conclusive compilation of each genre... It's a 13-song album. That doesn't even cover 1 song per My Dying Bride release.
