Damn it. Seriously, god dammit. Where in the name of all norse whores is my groove? It crossed the Byfrost and is now resting in Asgard? Or maybe Loki took it? After all he is the most mischievous deity in the lands where even boobs are cold and frostbitten. I loved Black Earth so much because, apart from being a great album through and through, it had shitloads of infectious, rocking groove. It was impossible to sit straight and listen to Byfrost's debut. Your head just had to bang. And now, on their sophomore effort, the groove is mostly gone. Of Death contains more black and less thrash. Slow tempos have been mostly replaced by fast tempos. So fast that the groove couldn't keep up and was left behind.

Byfrost is now less thrashy and more blacky than on their debut, Black Earth, but it's still a wonderful, in-your-face, straightforward slab of unadulterated black metal filth. Groovy as hell too. Watch your head, and prepare for severe neck pains tomorrow morning.

This album really hits a sweet spot with the production. The bass and drums are mixed into the music for ultimate grrrroooove. >:[

This one is alright, but does not nearly reach the fun of the previous one. The mid-paced and faster songs seem to be missing those necessary hooks, and the slow "Sorgh," which reminded me of the last song on Burzum's Belus, although quite nicely dark and psychedelic, does not manage to channel that depressive feeling that the Burzum's song does.

Don't know, it's just me. Maybe it needs more time.
