It seems that they want to satisfy old fans and returned to proven patents. Overall not a bad stuff in any means, but I loved when they were more psychedelic/progressive. Reheated chop doesn't taste quite as good as fresh.

Yeah I would have also liked another proggy, psychedelic number but all in all this is a solid swansong and an enjoyable one at that. There's a few spacey keyboards here and there. Annoyingly no flutes though ala 'Reaching Happiness, Touching Pain'. Oh well. Good enough for me.

Brilliant album, and a fitting farewell to the band. 'Pallbearer' and 'An observation' are just monumental.

First thing I've ever heard from this band. Kind of weird shit. This sounds a little "sludgy" to me. Fair?

Better late than never and it sounds more stoner I'd say.

Lee's vocals kind of ruin it for me. The bonus track (which I doubt it was from the recordings of the Last Spire, it sounds like some of the older stuff) has much doomier vocals

I must admit, I felt a bit anxious when I got my hands on this record, the reason being that one year ago I got really disappointed with the last Candlemass album and now I was afraid of the repetition of that situation.
To my relief, "The Last Spire" not only failed to disappoint me but actually exceeded my boldest expectations. It is heavy as bloody Hell, with riffs that sound like a driving of nails into coffin reminding me of the older records, but, at the same time, not without that daring experimental spirit of "The Guessing Game".
I think, with this record Cathedral has managed to go out in style. Thanks, guys. You always were and always will be one band of a kind. Doom!

I've never heard any Cathedral record before but I would say this is almost a perfect Traditional Doom record for me this year.

I haven't check it out their latest but whenever I hear Cathedral, two major albums dropped by "Forest of Equilibrium and "The Carnival Bizzare". Both have a crushing sips.
