Slumber is a half Swedish half Persian atmospheric death/doom metal band based in Sweden. After releasing two demo's they have now given out their first debut full length album Fallout.

The album starts with the opening track Rapture, a mid-paced song with a melancholic atmosphere and depressive touch, almost leaning towards gothic/doom and the gothic influences are much clearer in the end of the song when we hear some backup female vocals (almost orchestral). The second track is more melodic and the guitar work immediately reminds me of mid-period Katatonia and the Katatonia influences are crystal clear. The overall atmosphere and feeling of this album also reminds me a bit of Rapture.

That means nothing really. The recent Insomnium had a similar score, as did the last Septic Flesh, they weren't worth more than 7ish. Any kind of melodic doom or melodeath gets absurdly high scores these days.

This actually deserves a high score "not a 9 obviously" but it has a lot of creativity and immense emotions invested in it

You sure know how to crush a little boy's big dreams, doncha?
Sadly, you're completely right. The first two listens revealed nothing spectacular, but I'll give it a bit more time before I rate it (and yeah, I feel a 7 coming).

EDIT: Ya, definitely a pretty good release, but not worthy of a 9.1 by any stretch of imagination.
Imma give it a strong 8.

Rating: 10 I finally found a download. I can't find this album anywhere under 50 euros, it's rediculous! Even though it would be totally worth it. This album is breathtaking. Melodic doom metal at its best!

Comparing this band to others is a bit difficult, as they released just this album. But here are a few particular albums I enjoy the most: http://www.metalstorm.net/users/list.php?list_id=1622

If you like this one I think you'll also like bands like Rapture and October Tide.

Just spun this today. It's pretty good. I am not blown away or anything. The songs mostly all sound the same. BTW, my definition of doom metal must be different than most because I don't here any doom in this at all, in fact, I'd call this gothic more so than anything.

I can see why you would say that, I hear a bit of a gothic sound as well. As I understand it there is less that distinguishes Melodic Doom like this than those which are more, say, less melodic Death Doom. As the review points out it sounds a bit like the gothic doom of Katatonia at times, that's good comparison I think. It's your Swallow The Sun kind of doom.

sorry, now I see where I went wrong thinking you thought there were Fractal Gates members in Slumber, my mistake.

Fractal Gates members (plural) in Enshine explains the drabness that is Enshine
