Exactly. Not that much.
Yeah... so? That's my point. I don't find nothing pecualiar about it o__o
If you were trying to make a point to Marcel's comment. Well, I dunno what it was since I doubt that Marcel liked that artwork as well.

Well then it seems like you've got all three of us having the same opinion over it. Because that's what I think over it.

same. I can't connect with any of the songs >.> I think they are trying to get back to their older sound, but that doesn't mean it's the guaranteed formula for success...
EDIT: it sounded a bit better today lol

I feel the exact opposite Ag Fox... all the songs are very good imo... very solid album... maybe not at first... but give it some time... I didn't quite enjoy "Crucify" the first time I listened to it... but now I love it.

This is a very good release their best since draconian times imo, but still it doesn't really hit me tell now, some moments seems to be forced, but its definitely a grower, its a 8.4 for me...for now

Having listened to this album over the last few days, I didn't really know how the album's two leading tracks, 'Crucify' and 'Honesty in Death', would match up to the rest of the album. As it stands, the album itself has a lot of variety, not necessarily in structure of musicianship, but the lyrics and tempo of each song. It's noticeable that the guitar work is a lot heavier than on past affairs (influenced by Greg's work on Vallenfyre, perhaps?), as well as the fact that Holmes' clean vocal range is so much better, even if there isn't really a great deal of harsh vocals on offer here. It may seem repetitive and sometimes even dreary to new fans of the band, but the doom metal approach on 'Tragic Idol' is in spades. I believe this to be one of the finest metal albums of 2012, but there's still a long way off yet.

I know, after repeated listens I've grown to REALLY enjoyed 'Honesty In Death' and thus thou played it the most of all the the album songs since.

Because it's easier for him to whore out his reviews on a bigger webzine in order to increase traffic on his site...

But this site is better. Just saying...
I think when there is a good thing, you add to a good thing. Why take away from a good thing to make only yourself better? Forgive me, I'm stoned.

I love Paradise Lost, they've been one of my all-time favorite bands ever since Draconian Times came out.. but they need to change how they write their songs. I just realized that they basically write songs exactly like Iron Maiden. They come up with a title, and they repeat that title 20 times throughout the song and throw a few other filler verses in there and call it a song.
Am I wrong?

Yep, with this album they have been a bit lazy. It only works in "Honesty In Death".

Am I wrong?
Not at all.
I personally think this is a pretty solid album, although I did expect better after their previous one. Tracks 4-7 are quite meh, if they were better, this would really be a killer album. "Solitary One" is especially awesome, one of PL's best overall.

I bought the album today, and I'd say it's very good - like most of PL's releases, it will probably need a few listens to fully appreciate (which others have also suggested). Even heavier and darker than their previous 2 albums, but of course with a strong sense of melody, although less immediate 'hooky' choruses perhaps.

My favorite band, but this album lacked something, i miss their experimenting, i have to admit i miss symbolic and self titled, i did want PL to be heavier again but without losing the other great elements they picked up along the way, i miss all the keys and the atmospheric stuff, over all i wont deny though it was a very good album.

Three years ago "Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us" made me come to love the music of Paradise Lost again. Now, after listening to "Tragic Idol" I can only say "alas"...
The only song I like on this album is Theories From Another World (probably 'cause it doesn't sound like a usual PL song). Not a bad album but somewhat of a disappointment for me.

Some lead melodies are a bit of recycled too. With this album I'm just "oh that was used on the album Paradise Lost" or "this part here reminds me of some of the most lame moments on Believe In Nothing" etc. "Theories" had some Shades Of God album feeling in it. This album lacks nuances and cool, insightful parts. I can imagine that Vallenfyre drank Gregor's best juices. And what a borefest is the trio of tracks, which end this album.

Sounds different from icon and draconian times, more doom. The vocals are also great, he sings powerfully. Looks like this album is better than draconian times.... oh, and the first four tracks are epic.

Finally listened to it as well, and yeah, it does sound like they were trying too hard to make another Icon. As a matter of fact I was expecting Nick to belt out the lyrics of "Colossal Rains" in the middle of several songs.

I love the album, IMO, for now it's best release 2012. However I was on PL concert this year.. and Holmes couldn't manage to sing properly.. Event with great disappointment.. As I read he's known for that. Anyway we have album where he sings powerfully.
