After listening to one track from Where The Corpses Sink Forever I was slightly disappointed and apprehensive about the rest of the record. The song was "Sir John" and while I didn't find it bad, it simply sounded too similar to their previous works. I delayed picking up the album but after a few months I could wait no longer and now, after several weeks of sinking my teeth in and digesting Where The Corpses Sink Forever I can confidently say, Carach Angren has done it again!

Overrated? I haven't seen anybody talking about it. No praise, no scorn, just nothing.

I read like six reviews(9\10) and listened to the album like five times, before writing this. Add to that it's been recommended a countless times by many of my friends..

Sorry I didn't know the album is still underground here on MS.

The album almost has 40 votes actually - wouldn't call that underground for a black metal band. Even if they're an over-the-top symphonic black metal band.

Exactly, for fans of symphonic black metal, it doesn't get much better this. Not as good as Lammendam, but much better then Phantom Ship. 9/10

Wow man, so listening to the album for five whole times made you wanna express your feelings about it and you gave it a 4, thats great...or maybe not so great..

Let me state something that may help some people understand what they are dealing with when we speak of Carach Angren who are indeed a literally "over the top" Symphonic, not black, Metal Band (better deal with them like maybe you deal with Diablo Swing Orchestra, with OPEN ears, you will be rewarded..and NO they are NOT black metal as Troy would surely agree but doesnt say it ).....i started with Lammendam about 2 years ago, a friend of mine actually unlocked my ears while we were listening to it and then, for almost a year and a half, i listened to it more than 500 times and still cant get enough of it. While i listened to Death Came Through A Phantom Ship almost the same time as Lammendam, i couldnt and wouldnt get into it untill about 4-5 months ago..when i got so full of Lammendam, 1 and a half year full!!..and then i got stuck with the unbelievable glory of Death Came Through The Phantom Ship...the album cracked open for me and it continues to feed my mind and my ears with MUSIC, i just started to actually listen to it after all....

Then a few weeks ago this one, Where The Corpses Sink Forever, got released..i was already full of Lammendam..half full of Death Came so i gave it a spin or two and it didnt get too much time to realize what i was listening to although i couldnt (or wouldnt..) follow it....i still listen to it quite often but i prefer Death Came for now cause it really has quite a lot to give...but after at least 50-60 spins i can tell for sure that When The Corpses Sink Forever is cut from the same golden material the previous 2 albums were made..it feels more mature/serious, it doesnt go too technical but rather stays more simple but with superb atmosphere and excellent, once again, orchestral compositions....in not so few words..this band and their albums are gold....not so easy to follow after 5 listens but so deep that you will not get tired of them after 500, and thats something quite rare after the thousands of metal songs we listened to so many years now and are bored to death to hear again and again..

A last note to my quoted friend..i am past 50 listens and still cannot/dont want to rate it...

Kind of a strange thing to get upset about considering how much time you've wasted listening to this. Just because someone else scores it lower than what you would doesn't mean they aren't allowed voicing their opinion.

Well sorry if it sounded like that but i have absolutely no problem if someone doesnt like it and rate it below zero, i respect that everyone's ears are different than mine. I just pointed out that hearing an album 5 times doesnt actually help to form a justified opinion, even a negative one. It doesnt do justice to any album not just this one.

5 spins is more than enough to get a clear picture of how good or bad an album is. Hell, in 99% of the cases even 1 spin is enough. If you don't get the music after 5 spins there is something quite wrong with the listener imo.

Exactly. Suggesting you need more than five spins all the time to be able to judge it is ridiculous. I usually listen to albums once or twice before rating them.

I'd give it a 9 for the music alone. The vocals and lyrics drag it down for me.
Oh, and I've listened to it 3 and a half times.

Effeminate pirates, maybe. This is way too cheesy to be synonymous with the likes of rapists, thieves, and murderers.

Thankfully all pirates weren't "rapists, thieves, and murderers". Thieves, well, that's for sue

Some albums maybe, but if you're familiar with a genre you can basically rate an album after one or two listens as long as it's not something new and groundbreaking.

Has anyone else thought there was a touch of death metal on this album? (that's got nothing to do with my rating, btw)

Meh, I'm starting to think Lammendam was a fluke, because they just can't seem to write anything good after that. The dialogue-like black metal vocals really kill it for me on Where the Corpses Sink Forever.

The vocals are one of the largest aspects of this band, if anything they are only getting better as the mature.
