Soilwork is a one trick pony. They do that trick really well...but it is still only one trick. Here is where both the strength and the weakness in this album rests. Their use of melodic death metal style verses offset with a more power metal chorus is catchy and down right fun at times. This formula is what Soilwork is know for and rightfully so; they are masters of it. There is not a song on this album that could be called weak yet none of them stand out. They all sound like Soilwork songs. There is very little difference between the songs here. With each one averaging about 4 minutes in length it is hard to tell them apart. The formula is the biggest downside here. They never stray from it and play if safe from start to finish.

I'm not all that fan and don't really enjoy their sound, but fuck me, "Long Live the Misanthrope" is one of the best songs I've ever heard from them and this year.

Perhaps it's because they secretly wanna fuck Bjorn.

Lol true! Though for some among us, that might not be so "secret"...

While I definitely don't consider Soilwork a guilty pleasure, I was totally star-struck when I met Bjorn in person at their recent show in Toronto. :p

If there is one album released so far this year that deserves an "Album Of The Year" title, this is it.

...it stayed strong?

They should have cut out a few tracks from the end of disc 1, they simply weren't up to par with the rest of the material. On the plus side, I've always disliked Soilwork, but on this album they've really nailed groove and melody.

Personally they should've cut it down to 1 45 minute disk.

It simply drags on after a while. Soilwork don't have the ability for something of this scale.

My $0.02.

Yep, if they kept the solid tracks this could easily be a much better record. God DAMN these guys can write a sick chorus, don't care how predictable...

I've always been a Soilwork fan, maybe not the most faithful since I haven't listened to the albums released after Sworn To A great Divide, but this one. However, this disappoints me much less than the aforementioned STAGD. This is in no way comparable to Figure Number Five though (still my favourite, one of my favourite of all time actually - I have no idea why people prefer NBC, maybe because it was heavier). The problem is that they sound exactly like... themselves. Extremely predictable. It's impossible to listen to it all in one sitting, almost an hour and a half of average Soilwork is a torture.

Indeed. Maybe that's why I don't really like this album. Although I must admit that the very last song makes my day.

Could be quite happy i it was indeed a good album. But it was not, not even close... Found some interesting parts in "This Momentary Bliss", "Long Live The Misanthrope" "loyal shadow" and "The Living Infinite II". Super hyped in MS without reason...

If this album was just:

01. Spectrum Of Eternity
02. This Momentary Bliss
03. Tongue
04. Long Live The Misanthrope
05. Drowning With Silence
06. Antidotes In Passing
07. Leech
08. The Living Infinite II
09. Loyal Shadow
10. Rise Above The Sentiment

It would be a 9.3/10 IMO. As a double album, it is an 8.7/10 for me.
