Recorded mostly live at Portland's Jackpot Studio by Billy Anderson (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis) and mixed by Anderson and later mastered by Justin Weis (Ludicra, Hammers Of Misfortune, Worm Ouroboros) at Trakworx.

Available for listening here.

Here's a little game I like to play: guess what genre the next Agalloch EP will be? From the blasting lo-fi of From Which This Oak to the strange semi-electronic remixes on The Grey to the acoustic laden, Wicker Man-themed The White, Agalloch has managed a wide spectrum on their music palette, which makes this guessing game downright impossible. One thing's for sure, the EPs are never similar in genre to the preceding album, right?

I really would not bet on something similar to The White here. No one knows as of now, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Based on the photos of the recording uploaded to facebook, they are using electric instruments and drums for this EP.
Yet, it seems they are hitting the deer skull again, so probably the track will have some acoustic bits. Or drony if they do it ala Marrow.

Considering most of their Eps have been on the lighter side I'm going to keep my fingers crossed, but I hate getting my hopes up only to have them crushed; I'm just gonna keep my mouth shut til it drops:-X

I, for one, hope they deepen the trail they followed on Marrow of the Spirit. Heavy or mellow, I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking in terms of style, just pure quality.

Agreed on both parts. The White was absolutely mesmerizing while The Marrow was fairly bland.

They're signed to Profound Lore so it's not like they don't have the financial means, but Agalloch have always released a few EPs in between full-length releases. Usually the EPs signify a style change and offer different material from the band's full-lengths.

I know Troy but it just pisses me off. The band is sooo good and I am sooo selfish that I want a 110 minute long, two-cd album from them

When it comes to Agalloch, it's nothing to worry about. Every positive comment about the band should be at least posted four times.

As well as some lovely covers: ''Kneel to the Cross'' is perhaps one of my all time favourite tracks from any band.

Their EPs do the group justice and are usually not just bland filler.

Also, EPs sometimes house bands' full nuclear arsenals of song writing ability. Vader, Immolation and Suffocation: I'm pretty sure their most praised works aren't just limited to LPs.

Oaken - 26.06.2012 at 18:42
Rating: 8 Very good song, and really epic. I noticed that the black metal parts are rawer than usual, while the vocals are harsher and sharper, with the absence of clean vocals (There are a lot of eerie, spoken parts that are related to Faustian myths). I still need more listening to be able to rate it.
