Sure was surprised to see this band reviewed here, but apparently they'd been more metal/post-rock in the past. This album is fairly straightforward shoegaze in the vain of My Bloody Valentine: noisy but saccharine. Not bad, but not particularly great either.

I really gotta check this out then. Some good ol' shoegazing is always good.

I just bumped this to a 9. It is sooooo good. It will be in the running for my AOTY! Fans of Alcest and Junius give it a shot!

I've seen in a couple places that Loveless is considered THE landmark for dreampop/shoegaze music and that this album has been compared to it. Fair? I have not listened to Loveless maybe I should?

Yes. It may not be my personal favorite, as I tend to like things a little dreamier, but it's definitely the album that best embodies the style. Its sound was unprecedented.

You definitely should. But in my opinion the best shoegaze classic is Souvlaki by Slowdive, it is dreamier and more melancholic than Loveless and overall gives a vibe more similiar to the atmospherics of the blackgaze movement than Loveless does.
