And because of those few people who took the time to listen and rate this, they probably felt it didn't stack up compared to Vomitory's subsequent releases.

I for one really enjoy this album, but I can understand why some wouldn't.

Most likely. This reminds me of Purification Through Violence - it gets an unnecessary bashing from people just because it's more primitive and raw than the better produced stuff that was released in the following years.
