Skepticism were the first band to be categorized as funeral doom and, judging from their overall sound and atmosphere, someone can easily realize the reasons why. Their compositions haunted the sound of many bands and made them one of the most, if not the most, representative and obscure acts in the funeral doom scene.

Starting to think that this and Thergothon's Stream From The Heavens are better than the Maniacal Vale. Those two might be my favorites in the funeral doom genre.

Heh, I guess I'm the other way around. I'm expecting some purists to chime in to say that this is the best one evaaar but to me: While Skepticism and Thergothon defined the genre with fantastic debuts (and following albums in the case of Skepticism)... The Maniacal Vale simply transcended the genre (and a few others) like a motherfucker which is what I admire the most at the end of the day . I'm yet to year a funeral doom song that is bigger than say..."Circle".

I'm not denying The Maniacal Vale's or Esoteric's mastery of the genre, but this album just has a much different atmosphere which is starting to appeal to me more and more. I think I've decided that I would put this album and TMV on about the same level and Thergothon's s/t just below them.

Just a quick note: You quoted me exactly at the same time I edited the post... I kind of regret my words that could be interpreted in the wrong way since a pioneer album certainly does not lose points simply because many flat out did the same thing for many years later.

Your relation to this album is probably in the same vein of the one I have with albums like Streetcleaner or Through Silver In Blood. Where one of THE pioneer bands created something that to me still stands above virtually everything else in the respective genre.

The last sentence hits the nail on the head, and I'll edit my previous post to reflect your edit

Very good album, but somehow it doesn't blow me away at all. It's just nice and enjoyable. Not really crushing at all either, unlike other funeral doom I've heard.

Unlike bands like Evoken, this has much less variety in its sound, which is probably why I like it less.

Despite the phenomenical bad production I found this unique and characteristic. With great tracks like "Sign Of A Storm" and " The Rising Of The Flames" this great genre begun to blow our minds.

The remix is probably the best thing this year for me. Skepticism has done some nice necromancing and made this bastard sing even lovelier.

Im truly starting to believe the new remix is way better than the original. It really feels like it was meant to sound that way from the beginning.

Evoken is hard to listen usually long songs, 2 CD's , this is simpler, more metal album, less long sounds, good guitar, drum work, album has vocals , interesting album and band,
