What a difference a line-up change can make. An energy is present in Stratovarius's camp which can only be pinned down to a fresh chemistry. New gun Rolf Pilve has quite the role to fill and expectations are high as he replaces Jorg Michael who provided the drums for many of the band's classic records. Perseverance is key and even after all their previous dramas Stratovarius have made Nemesis their most expressive return to form.

Rating: 10 Just heard the album, not sure what to make of it all at the moment, it's definitely good - sounds like completely new territory and direction but it's fresh and great at the same time. Completely New kind of music for Stratovarius not all the old fans are going to like this.. but i'm an old fan and I LOVE it. Think this album will attract a lot of new fans

These songs are AMAZING

I'm four tracks in so far... so far I like the two songs I've heard already (2 and 4), but I'm not too crazy about tracks 1 and 3. I guess 50% isn't too bad. Hopefully there are some more good songs awaiting me...

EDIT: Album growing on me a lot. Probably an 8/10 for me right now.

Rating: 8 Hard to believe I haven't listened to this band before, since I've recently tried to direct my musical interests towards Power Metal. So this is obviously the first album I've listened to by Stratovarius, and I can honestly say that my impression is that of a good one. The sound in general is very consistent and solid, songs like 'Unbreakable' and the title track proving to be very concise and powerful in their approach. The unashamed balladry of 'If the story is over' works well, and the keyboard flourishes on most of the tracks keep my budding ears engaged. I'll be sure to check out the band's other albums!

Rating: 10 Wow. Who saw this coming? A lot more of a Symphony X/Kamelot sound coming from the music this time and way fewer lame lyrics. What a superb record.

This sounds awesome! Now I can't wait to hear it! Admittedly I haven't heard all that much with this band, but imo their previous album was a masterpiece so I'm really looking forward to this.

Admittedly Stratovarius is my favorite band ever, but this one is relieving after the previous two. Lemme know what you think, man! Enjoy!

Rating: 7 Old school Strato fan here. Didn't like this album much at all. I can see how newer listeners might like it but it's nothing compared to their earlier albums. They did what Symphony X did, turn from being unique sounding into generic crap filled with boring riffs and ridiculous symphonics. Timo also isn't showing his great emotive voice. Their last few albums were pretty average too, though i like some songs.

Didn't mean to put a blemish on the stream of good reviews, but it did nothing for me (granted - only one listen so far so i didn't rate too low).

My personal favourite Strato song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6fCpxDPVso

Rating: 9 Well, very nice album. In some tracks it reminded me of the most early Strato times
Opethshed - 03.03.2013 at 17:20
  This one is well-done musically
But Timo sounds like he paid more effortness to sing well...that's sad...

I'll be sure to check out the band's other albums!

Be sure to check Visions. Imo is far their best album, and among the best power metal albums in general. It was composed in Timo Tolkki's golden era, the guitar/keyboard duels are simply amazing.
Void Eater - 08.03.2013 at 09:11
Favorite album of 2013 so far by a big margin, can't see that changing any time soon.
NO ONE CAN BRING ME DOWN!!!!! I WILL DEFEND MY BELIEFS!!!!!!

Rating: 7 WTF???? Electronic power??? Nemesis would be so much better if there weren't the electronic keyboards and fillers...
Mountain King - 01.04.2013 at 18:42
Rating: 9 I'll rate it 8 till now. I mean of course It's great and it's Stratovarius who I think have lots of amazing albums but calling this one their best? Hell no. Not close to Visions or Infinite that I easily rate as 10. Need to listen to Nemesis more to form a good rating, the production is great as usual, Mathias is a great guitarist one of the best around and the songs are really catchy and heavy, but for some reason I always prefer Polaris out of the 3 new albums. "Winter Skies" is way better than "If The Story Is Over". It's one of their best songs ever and so is "Deep Unknown"...Anyway very good album, my favorites till now would be "Unbreakable", "Out Of The Fog", "Halcyon Days" and "Castles In The Air" with it's nice solos...
Mountain King - 05.04.2013 at 21:10
Rating: 9 Okay 9 it is. Better than Elysium, it keeps gettin better. Fantasy is the only track I didn't like a lot...

Rating: 9 If your listening to this album while driving, beware of speed limits! Got caught speeding today while it was playing. Didn't even realize i was speeding. STRATOVARIUS MADE ME DO IT!!! Don't think the cop would have believed me. Great album, probably my favourite.

Interesting that you say they wen't unoriginal while your favourite song from them is a straight Iron Maiden copy.

Just because someone has found similarities with an Iron Maiden song, it doesn't make it a copy (assuming you are talking about the youtbue comment about Mother Russia). Personally i can barely see any similarity except from a part of the intro. The songs are entirely different. Bands draw inspiration from Maiden, i've heard heaps of similar songs of the years, but it doesn't make it a 'copy'.

The new Strato album is filled with Symphony X and Kamelot sounding parts too anyway.
