Rhiannon - 13.04.2013 at 16:01
Rating: 8 Awaiting... Hopefully it will be as good as The 13th Floor, and much better than the previous
WorpeX - 15.04.2013 at 16:30
I lost faith in this band after the Enigma of poor songwriting. This time, im going to listen to the album before buying it. I do like the album name though, very original... something the last album was severely lacking.
Billmaster - 30.04.2013 at 03:32
Rating: 10 I have really wanted to hear . And has two songs in Norwegian ! I'm desperate!...
Vilovita Rusalka - 09.05.2013 at 00:00
I'm still hopeful, but what a shame they haven't continued down the same road as their very earliest albums...

Rating: 8 I'm confident that this album will be awesome! Here's another song:
Blasphemer1992 - 16.05.2013 at 16:08
Rating: 6 Seven Windows Weep is very good, and i'm glad that the atmosphere is quite similar to "At Sixes and Sevens". Seems like true Sirenia comes back.
Susan - 08.06.2013 at 03:59
Just listening to "Seven Widows Weep" via the band's video. This is shockingly not bad. Perhaps the whole album will be good!
annodomini - 25.06.2013 at 14:12
I might have underestimated Sirenias capabilitys. The album truly souds very solid and great. It's not „At sixes and sevens", but it is still great, and it quite different way. Lots of Latin choirs, that are in right places, and not in spite of just being there (as we heard in few previous releases). This could be a great return to a good songwriting and good music to Sirenia. Surprise.
Kajisu - 26.06.2013 at 18:16
Rating: 7 Just listen the whole album on Youtube. It surprises me because I thought it's gonna be crap like previous releases (I only like their first two albums). Ailyn's voice still sounds annoying in some parts, but she improves a lot.
ManiacBlasphemer - 26.06.2013 at 20:35
Rating: 10 Well, I never had a thing to say about Ailyn's voice, I liked it from the beginning but I have to admit, her voice now is even better. I also listened to the whole album and it has some great moments. It's far better than their last one, slightly above The 13th Floor but not as good as the first two, it stands somewhere in between. Still, great performance, better than Tristania's new opus.
Rasa - 28.06.2013 at 15:53
Rating: 8 I never thought that I will love Sirenia's album for its metal aspect. But in this one the riffs and the solos are just shining. Even Ailyn's voice, which most of the time, sounds annoying for me fits quite nicely. At last, they have redeemed themselves for me after all these mediocre albums. Loving this one!
Dark Forever - 28.06.2013 at 17:19
Rating: 8 Stille Kom Døden. Enough said.
Dark†SymphonY - 28.06.2013 at 19:12
Rating: 7 Much improved and more complex than the previous albums. Ailyn's vocals still are terribly weak though (which let the whole album down IMO), despite some new classical vocal lines, especially in the first track. Some great tracks like Seven Windows..., Cold Caress and Stille Kom Døden, but overall its ok. Around 7.5/10 for me.
Italics - 29.06.2013 at 01:30
Rating: 7 After track 4 this album becomes extremely generic and formulaic. I actually prefer TEOL (which I thought was a decent album) to this, so I guess I am just in the minority.
Justicelust - 29.06.2013 at 14:01
Rating: 8 This album is their best one in my opinion.
Cassian - 29.06.2013 at 15:23
Sirenia is back, really really BACK!
Blasphemer1992 - 29.06.2013 at 15:50
Rating: 6 Honestly i find this album very intresting but the only problem for me is Aillyn's vocals. Despite the fact that she has made some performance recently, her singing still sounds quite irritating for me and too poppy.
Array - 29.06.2013 at 20:39
Rating: 5

For sure it's better than the previous album, but still this is filled with some pretty mediocre stuff.. and once again it's way too long. Another chapter in synthetic gothpoppish metal delivered by the factory.

December edit: Well, maybe I like it half stars more now.
God Alone - 30.06.2013 at 02:59
Rating: 3 The previous album remains one of the worst and most embarrassing pieces of trash I've ever had the (dis)pleasure to listen to.
This one is obviously an improvement (actually only riff-wise), but still vapid and kitschy enough to remind me once again of the band's uselessness.
Morten you should take up knitting and keep Ailyn's boobies just for yourself.
beyondtehdarksun - 01.07.2013 at 16:04
Rating: 6 Lots of guitars but still meh.
E†han1994 - 02.07.2013 at 00:35
Rating: 8 This is a step up from The Enigma Of Life (which I did actually like). I have always liked Ailyn's voice, but she sounds amazing here. I've read that she joined a choir to get more practice, and it definitely shows here.

I have no idea what Sirenia was thinking here...

What struck me was that the vocals where to sharp, the synths where to pronounced (this is supposed to me metal after all!).

But the worst part is the MIXING, it sounds terrible!
Like it was recorded in a cardboard tunnel then mixed in some home-studio, the wrong instruments are at focus and there is no dynamic whatsoever - it's a MESS.

I handed it to my friend that is a professional music mixer (25 years experience) and he agrees completely, it's shit. I'm SO disappointed
hidden_ninja - 02.07.2013 at 09:04
Rating: 2 This is how you mix an album professionally, listen to the separation and placement of the instruments and the voice!...

DAMNIT... so disappointed!

De Dragoth - 02.07.2013 at 14:32
I really like their new stuff. Ailyn's improved voice is perfect and Morten sings very often in this album. The choirs are used sensibly and in the right place. Completely this album is darker than the previous Enigma of life.
My best of the Perils of deep blue: Profound scars, Stille Kom Døden, Ditt Endelikt, Darkling and Chains.

Orphaned land it sounds like a happy dancing song

Absolutely, it completely ruined an album that (here I disagree) has some pretty good tunes and riffs in my opinion. I already dislike Aylin's voice enough so that there was no need to make it even more dreadful for me with that production.

All in all, first album I slightly enjoy after "Elixir". "Ditt Endelikt" is as gayest as the album gets but boy, that's what I call a hit.

While I do like the album, I will admit the mixing has made it much louder than it needed to be. I suppose this album can used as a prime example of the negative effects of the Loudness War.

I don't think it's about loudness, actually the vocals drown beneath it's own production. Whenever you have keyboards + vocals at the same time it's like it was recorded in a tunnel as someone said above.
I just checked a couple of random songs from their previous album and you can clearly figure out what went wrong with this one.

Better than Enigma of Life, but not as good as I would like Sirenia to be. I like somehwere the same as The 13th Floor. I'm totally hooked on Ditt Endelikt, though!

Yeah, I think the bad mixing is because of the Loudness. This album is ridiculously loud, and usually a lot of modern album wind up with really crap mixing so it can be made louder. They get compressed and clipped like mad, and I think that's what's happened here.

My Destiny Coming To Pass:

Although, whether it is down to the Loudness War or not, I do agree, the mixing is not very good.

Rating: 5 Compressed and clipped indeed.
musicalkaratekid - 09.07.2013 at 18:24
Rating: 6 It's definitely better than their last album, there's no doubt about that. But this album is way too long and there's a few songs that shouldn't be on there due to being plain boring. Marten has some pretty powerful harsh vocals and his guitar work is generally pretty solid, but the symphonic elements are a bit bland in comparison to be honest. Nonetheless, it's not bad, but it's less decent than I thought it would be.

Nah, you are right, it seems to be a Loudness War victim. I though that was a term you came up with or something less "official", but I read about it (pretty interesting read) and it's actually a thing And there are the screenshots for the evidence, it's really sad... I guess it's the same thing that happened with Death Magnetic.
hidden_ninja - 13.07.2013 at 11:50
Rating: 2 It's not uncommon that the original mixing was good, then the record label wanted it to sound louder and did a second mixing to make the record "pop" more.

The results are often the complete opposite - especially on high-end speakers.
Sincarnator - 17.07.2013 at 10:36
  Album's shit!
Rhiannon - 18.07.2013 at 14:42
Rating: 8 Just as good as I expected, much better than Enigma, and finally some new elements, not just the usual clichés. There are some fillers like Cold Caress, Stille Kom Døden (12:42 of boredom) and Profound Scars, but overall I enjoyed the album.
Seven Widows Weep and Ditt Endelikt (who is the guy singing here?) are the highlights imo.

Wait, what?! For me that song was so horrible due to the male clean vocals I couldn't even finish listening to it and thus skipped it.

I think Ailyn's vocals are not great but I still have no problems with them, although they are definitely too poppy sometimes. It seems I'm more easily satisfied when it comes to female clean vocals than to male clean vocals... I'm actually pretty damn sure this is the case. Hell, I even love Galadriel's vocals while many seem to hate those. And Morten's growls are great as always, which actually goes without saying.

Hehe, the guy is not the best, but I still liked his performance. Was a nice change from the usual vocals (clean female, harsh male) on the album (just like Sirens Of The Seven Seas from the previous album). I'm surprised you liked the female vocals on Galadriel, imo they are one of the worst in the genre

Hehe, our tastes differ greatly so I'm not very surprised you like those vocals.

As I said I'm pretty easily satisfied when it comes to female vocals in beauty and the beast metal. And for me Galadriel's vocals fit the music perfectly... they don't sound poppy at all, and pretty unique too, as well as quite ethereal. I just love them, put simply. For example in this brillant song (and most other songs on that album as well):

Keep in mind this is symphonic doom metal though. Hell, since it's symphonic you might even like it.
