Mike Portnoy finally got to work in some full-fledged prog album after leaving DT it seems. This is definitely one of my most anticipated releases of '14.

Flying Colors was prog as well.

Yes I am aware. Didn't bother with that though, seeing as the nature of his other projects he is involved I lost interest in checking any of it out. But this one is a full-fledged prog, so I'm looking forward to it.

Meh, predictable and rather dull; it reminded me why I dislike Neal Morse.

Haven't listened to this album yet but as far as Morse goes, leaving lyrical theme aside, Sola Scriptura is musically pretty damn brilliant album.

Right now, it just sounds like Prog 101... Currently not impressed.

Yeah, I hate to agree, but they don't give me much option. Clearly the potential is there to do a lot more. This album certainly has a few good moments, but before you have time to absorb them you are smacked upside the ears with several minutes of prog clichés.

So much musical talent, all they need is a little friggin' creativity! I may hold a minority view here, but in my mind you can't be considered a progressive artist if everything you do has been done before. That's the opposite of progressive, no matter how well you play your instruments.

I'm quoting myself (LOL, not a good sign) as I'm giving Neal Morse a second chance as I am listening to one of his albums right now (not Transatlantic though). I have to say I like what I hear.

The reason i said I disliked him (a year ago) was because as far as his prog music goes, whatever the band is - Spock's Beard, solo or Transatlantic, the style/sound is the same.
But as I am listening to One, I swallow my words, the guy is no doubt talented.

No wonder, since I can tell you as a Neal Morse fan that One is his best album hope you'll enjoy his other stuff too

Man, if Neal would stop the keyboard wankery just once... they would be world class. The intro to "Into The Blue" makes me tingle every time.
