Rating: 9 So fucking brilliant. This is how you make an old-school sound interesting and fresh.

  Bölzer finally here!

Vombatus - 05.11.2013 at 22:38
Rating: 9 Best death/blackish material I heard this year.

The main riff on the second track is craaaaazy The one after the chorus on Coronal Mass Ejacultion is just as good, groovy as fuck.

Production should also be mentioned, more bands could learn a thing or two...
Daniell - 07.11.2013 at 00:17
Rating: 8 What makes this so fucking great is excellent riffage all over every song. Never heard of these guys before!

By the way, the first track is called Coronal Mass Ejaculation.
InnerSelf - 08.11.2013 at 17:22
Rating: 9 Opening riff on the second track is everything in the universe, reminds me of the glorious moments from The Ruins of Beverast.

Góral - 09.11.2013 at 18:05

I doubt since both Bölzer members are from Switzerland and live there and Witchrist is from New Zealand where the band members live
Pazdzioch - 09.11.2013 at 18:50
...so we have two guys with the same nickname here (weird shit as it's quite specific).
Marcel Hubregtse - 09.11.2013 at 18:56
Rating: 9 According to MA it is the same guy, but I find it highly unlikely
Góral - 09.11.2013 at 21:29
Rating: 9 Hmm, MA is not a 100% reliable source, as we all know. Other informations, unfortunately, I've not found. Well, I would have to wait for the next Witchrist album and see for yourself. I would like to localize other projects (if any) of this mysterious gentleman.

Or I'll just have to ask him in April at Roadburn

I have some reasons to believe it's the same guy:

1) http://www.metalireland.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=58355

Invictus: "There are only two members in the band, guitarist/vocalist and drummer, no bass and yep, Okoi is doing vocals for Witchrist also."

Remember how Invictus Productions is an Irish label.

2) Bölzer likes Witchrist: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BÖLZER/108657105834227

3) "The group shares vocalists with New Zealand's Witchrist. Bölzer will be making their first appearance at Maryland Deathfest in 2014." http://www.marylanddeathfest.com/band/bölzer

what does that have to do with a Swiss and New Zealand band? And neither are on Invictus. But it wouldn't surprise me if Darragh would know if it's the same guy.

EDIT: Forgot that Witchrist used to be on Invictus

Which is incorrect since Roadburn is about a month earlier. Unless they mean the frst time they'll be playin Maryland Deathfest.
Not sure if the band has ever played live, yet.

Well it's something they wrote, but I think they mean it's the first time Bölzer plays at their festival.

Fritillaria - 14.11.2013 at 16:14
Rating: 9 Though I enjoyed the first two tracks more then the final one, still it doesn't make the whole album any less pleasing. Some vocals sound like a howling wolf which is not bad at all
Koen Smits - 16.12.2013 at 17:40
Now I get it. I could only find 3 songs. Duh!
Diverge - 22.12.2013 at 05:28
Rating: 8 Nothing more or less than very good. I certainly don't feel like I was misled in any way coming into this record, though, so I appreciate the accurate depiction of this original band. Thanks for the recommendation, guys.
3rdWorld - 25.12.2013 at 18:41
Old school death brought out in a really amazing black-ish style. Very solid stuff. I would've preferred a full-length release after this to see how well these guys perform on a LP but it seems they have planned yet another EP for 2014. Still stoked to see that anyway.
BlueMobius - 26.12.2013 at 05:19
Rating: 9 I'm soo glad I bought this on CD. I've been coming back to this for the past few weeks. The only downfall is that it's over so soon
wormdrink414 - 24.01.2014 at 01:40
Rating: 8 Couldn't get enough of this at first and still think it's great, but there's something about the sound of the cymbals that's been driving me crazy for the past few spins. Don't know if it's my speakers/headphones or not, but they sound like sleigh-bells to me. Makes it sound all Santa-y

I can definitely hear it too.

The Ep itself doesn't really do anything for me, but I can see why its attained such a following.

deadone - 27.02.2014 at 05:48
Rating: 5 Hmmmm....upon a few repeat listenings, I have a more solid opinion of this.

IMO:

1. I definitely wouldn't rate it more than a 7 and more inclined to give it a 6.
2. Guitar riffs on track 1 and especially track 2 are really cool.
3. The drummer is boring as bat shit and contributes to a very samey vibe throughout out the whole EP.
4. Songs are over long, especially the bridge bit on the second song.
5. Too much Black Metal influence for my liking - especially in those damned drums but the guitars as well.
6. Don't like Track 3 at all. Given EP has 3 tracks and track 3 is half of it, that's a really bad thing.

Also it doesn't sound that old school DM...dunno about the Black side of it.

Hence not my cup of tea.

I don't think it's much OSDM... a certain vibe it has, but the BM influence gives it another flavor (so not surprised you don't appreciate it). Agree that the bridge on second song is a bit long, only downside for me. Boring drumming is the last thing I'd expect to say from this, one of the highlights for me (the cymbal work is awesome, and rythms don't necessarily follow the riffs the same way which gives them a lot of variety).
deadone - 27.02.2014 at 23:55
Rating: 5 The fast drumming is quite samey throughout though.

The third track had too many ideas and seemed less focused and well written than the first two.
Alex Fenger - 11.03.2014 at 23:18
Rating: 8 Ahh this sounds even better on vinyl. Really warm yet gritty. Absolutely phenomenal release
toxx - 31.03.2014 at 11:00
Seeing them at Til Dovre Faller in september. Can't wait! The played there last year as well, but I was attending Høstsabbat in Oslo instead.
Alex Fenger - 10.04.2014 at 19:02
Rating: 8 Why was the album page for Soma removed? Just because the album was delayed doesn't mean it's been cancelled.

The band recently (March 28th) posted this on their Facebook page:
"The release of 'Soma' will unfortunately be delayed by a number of weeks. But fret not, have our assurances that she will sound and look that much better.
An upload of the first song 'Steppes' will also be made for you as soon as we receive the final master.
Godspeed!!!"

Why ? Sound was bad ?

When I saw them it was an epic experience. Not as massive sounding as on cd as they are only two, but they nailed each note and the sound setting was rather good-very good. Atmosphere wise was so mystic with very dark red and blue lights, massive amount fog and incense and all those candles/animal bones... Vocalist/guitars dude is very imposing too, much presence on stage.

Well, Marcel would call us fanboys but Che and I loved their set. Chaotic shit with all the weird sounding riffs and the howling vocals were great.
