Rating: 10 Oh I'm so waiting for this one, the artwork is so awesome. Edit : oh and those titles sound to tasty.
EDIT 2 : wait, one more thing to say, what does "choir" have to do with Obscure Sphinx sound ? oh please don't turn this great band, sounding like a symphonic metal one :/ I hope that wouldn't be what I expect now.
Pazdzioch - 06.11.2013 at 16:29
We'll see... For now we only have a trailer:

They finally gave us a full track:

Very nice stuff and thankfully they didn't go in the direction of countrymen from Blindead.

My AOTY contender with such an epic closing track.

Also the ending of "Waiting For..." is worth mentioning - Rosemary's Baby theme song comes to mind.

Oooh.. I always love albums that end on a better note than it started. Will check it out asap now (after such ravings I've heard now about this).

Rating: 9 This is pretty excellent to say at least. I like their debut but they've shown their full intentional on this. Also, what a great outro for such an astonishing album.

So many albums, so little time but I finally listened to this. The thing that grabbed me is the female vox. She does a terrific job. Her screams are so truthful and relentless and when she actually "sings" its beautiful. The music itself teeter-totters between post and sludge with some atmospheric/tribal moments lodged in between. I will definitely give this a few more spins. It's a long album and I welcome the challenge. My favorite track so far is "Decimation".
Michaelis - 03.01.2014 at 18:44
Rating: 9 I'ts a really great album and it deserved to be in Top. Just from the beginning of listening I was take to the other world and still not let go. Deep atmosphere, deep sense od the void. You just have to listen it, feel and hear it for yourself.

Last track "The Presence of Goddness" just mind-blow.
ManiacBlasphemer - 04.01.2014 at 02:06
Rating: 10 Damn, what a great listen this was! It deserves to be on top indeed... but, like any other album that takes the spotlight, there's got to be some morons that would rate it 1 just to have their own preferred albums on top.
Draugen - 05.01.2014 at 17:45
Rating: 8 This album just keeps on getting better the more I listen to it. The excellent songwriting constantly keeps things interesting and gives the album an epic feel to it that culminates in the monolithic last song.
Fritillaria - 05.01.2014 at 18:57
Rating: 10 It is really great ! I don't know how can someone dare to give it lower than 8, because it's really catchy from the beginning to the very ending moment.

It left quite a similar impression on me after I've listened to it a couple of times (except for the Presence of Godess, which I still consider to be one of the highlights). But like you say, the two tracks before it are closer to an atmospheric stuffing than proper, individual songs.

That I actually did notice, though it's a bit difficult to explain why I find the two songs so different (I'm not talking about the choir, of course).

I actually found another one: the outro/intro section of Void/The Presence... is also in the intro of Decimation. The last three tracks are a single composition, kinda like what The Ocean did on Pelagial

Perhaps that is why they sound a bit dull to me, they are just a prelude and the finale comes with Presence. Dunno. I think Pelagial (if I should compare these two) is a lot more conceptually sophisticated.

Rating: 8 Without any doubt, this album is really very interesting and inspiring.. But what is doubtful, is that is it really the best one of 2013?..

It sounds alright, only. Not too memorable, not among the best of 2013 fo sho'.

Troy Killjoy - 15.01.2014 at 01:26
I've listened to this twice now and fail to hear the magic so many others seem to be hearing. It came off as slightly boring and the vocals were a bit of a weak spot to me, but I can understand what people like about their sound - just not my thing. I'd probably give it a 6/10, maybe a 7 if I'm feeling generous.

hehe yeah it's the same case.

I can't believe that at most Troy would rate this 7 ! I'm not trying to push my fav to anyone's ears, but come on this album easily stands out, the vocalist is definitely the strong point of not only this album but also the whole band, they owe so much of their success having this gem as their vocalist.
Vombatus - 15.01.2014 at 20:57
For me the vocals are one of the weak points, clean voice is nothing from the other world and the yells are even irritating sometimes. Music itself is not bad, simply unmemorable. A few good riffs here and there, but after two spins I don't think I want to listen to it again.
