It's only open to interpretation if you misunderstood it.

No, it's the other way around: if something is open to interpretation (like what you said is) it's possible to misunderstand it (which I don't think I am, but that discussion is finished already as we both won't budge anyway).

Yeah, stop derailing the thread with your inability to understand English

My English proficiency is good enough (well above average for a Dutch person, that is), thanks. I'm done with this.

And honestly, that last sentence is just nonsense. Fine by me if you dislike it, but now you're trying to give some sort of opinion before you even listened to a second of the album, which totally unfair (and ridiculous). At the very least, give the album one chance.

If the last sentence in my post is nonsense, then what does that make your post?

I never said I dislike this album. In fact, I never even gave an opinion on it at all, yet you think I'm being unfair (and ridiculous). In a separate argument, you fail to understand a pretty straightforward point made by Joe and descend into a debate about the English language. And then you try to spur another separate argument by mentioning the ratings of other users based on their apparently identical tastes in music.

Now that, to me, is nonsense.

You made an assumption by saying "and you kind of know what this is going to sound like before listening to it..." which annoyed me a bit as it comes off as unfair since you didn't even give it a chance. When I said "fine by me if you dislike it", which I admit was worded poorly, I meant that it's justified if you dislike it if you listened to it, instead of writing it off like you did based on merely an assumption.

And I'm not sure why you would bring up seperate matters here, as those have nothing to do with my reply to your post. The discussion with Joe in this thread has ended, after all. And what I said about Joe, Alex and mz is that they have similar taste in music, which I noticed because of the identical scores they handed out to a couple of 2014 albums. I never said their taste in music is identical.

Well, it came across as if you were implying this album is funeral doom.

No, it doesn't come across as such, at all. It can only come across the way you interpretd it if your comprehensive reading isn't up to scratch.

Pretty much on par with the other two Doom:VS albums. If you're a fan of the band I can't imagine you'll be disappointed,

I am a fan of the first two Doom:VS albums but this one was very disappointing, so immensely average.

whereas the first two albums were And Doom:VS moved away from tthe funeral doom light sound into generic death doom with some slight gothic touches now. Moving even towards Draconian's sound, the hooror, absolute hooror in that for me.

Btw this seems more to be answer to Alex's qquestion than to your statement hahahaha

Ahahaha yeah but I agree. It has spread way too much into generic territory.

Sometimes I think that it's not the sophomore album that really proves how consistent your band is, but the 3rd album.

it indeed is. Good case in point being Metallica with Master Of Puppets which actually just copied Ride The Lightning with a slightly different production.

This is really bland and forgettable. I've listened to it twice in the past week and don't remember a single riff.

Not bad, no way near as good as Aeternum Vale but far better than Dead Words Bore Me Half to Death.

I'm not sure Jensen's vocals work well with this music, I know Saturnus is also a gothic death/doom band but his vocals seem to suit their more gothic style better than Doom:VS's more melodic/Draconian style. Well I know they are both melodic and gothic but I don't know how to officially describe the differences between the two bands.

I do like the Draconian approach to this album, but without Lisa, or at least some female accompanying vocals, it does get a bit boring sometimes.

The album's saving grace, pulling it up into a high 7 for me, is definitely Oceans of Despair.

This band is just "meh" in general, if you ask me. I've listened to their first two at least twice and found nothing worth coming back to. This is no exception.

It's a highly consistent album, but Oceans of Despair and The Slow Ascent are the two highlights for me. I'd say the latter (last song) is the best.

Very good production and athmosphere. But riffs and melodies seem to be from a book "Guitar riff and melody templates", chapter "Doom metal". Very generic.

I prefer this album over the earlier ones. I love Thomas' vocals and the more melodic approach to doom metal. Also, I dont think the tracks on this albums are average. Each one has its own flavor and fits perfectly into the bigger picture that this albums wishes to paint. IMO, this is a great album that should be listened to in its entirety.
