Before everyone says, including myself, "Godflesh reunited, here comes Streetcleaner and Pure II", let's all take a step back and relax. They have just released a new EP, their first new material since 2001, and from what I gathered after the first play through of Decline & Fall, those fans wanting old-school Godflesh will not be disappointed. However, they will be left wondering if this all JK Broadrick had left in the tank. The classic foundations are apparent, but I am not sure the fresh ideas are.

Ringer streaming here
cant say that I'm very happy with it. The production does not do the justice and also, the song is too much "dancable".

Yeah, it sounds very artificial (not in a good way) and generally not that interesting a song. Lame.

Le Rod is dissapointed. I like the sound of the bass since it reminds me of their glorious past... But the guitars need extra oomph. Also, bring back those aggressive vocals! D:
My biggest problem seems to be the production and the lack of interesting and hard hitting moments. I still have faith though.

So I take it you never heard anything from Slavestate or Pure? Because those releases are full of danceable tunes... Some way more than this track.

I've heard those. Agreed about Slavestate but the last time I heard pure it was not really rhythmic and danceable. Moreover, the thing is that the new era was supposed to be similar to their debut I think. Maybe I'm wrong but Justin did say that he wants somethong similar to streetcleaner.

I think this song or this song... Oh, how could I forget THIS song have a much stronger rhythmic vibe and some riffs and beats are way more danceable.

I personally never heard of any news where he mentioned specific sounds (new or old) about the new album.

.

Fair enough. You are right
But these tracks have this bludgeony and punishing tunes which the new one lacks.

Not as bad as the first song they released would have suggested. Still not particularly amazeballs though.

Same here. It was better than I expected overall. Solid 7 from me. I'm still going to wait for the full length althought the anticipation is now lukewarm.

Hopefully it will have a different feel and focus and won't just be an extended version of this one.

Not too bad. Playing With Fire sounds a lot like Chi from Korn's Life is Peachy.

Good to see a return from Godflesh, and as far as this EP is concerned, the band are on fine form. Musically this isn't really that different from the band's last few albums before the split, but they pick out all the best bits of their sound and fuse them together nicely. My personal favourite from this EP would be "Dogbite".

I actually enjoy this quite a bit. Going through Godflesh's discography is something I've been meaning to do forever.
